The Dermatology Specialists

Business Development Associate

New York City's Largest Dermatology Practice

We're a full-service dermatology practice with 60+ locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island. Now Delaware and Philly too!

The Dermatology Specialists is seeking a highly organized, motivated Business Development Associate to join our Business Development team and play an important role in the rapid expansion of our dermatology platform.

This position will work directly with the Executive Vice President of Business Development and will have significant responsibility for coordinating new office openings, with a particular focus on project management, procurement, and pre-opening office setup.

The ideal candidate does not need prior experience in commercial real estate, construction, or healthcare. We are looking first and foremost for an exceptional project manager—someone who is organized, accountable, detail-oriented, comfortable managing multiple workstreams simultaneously, and able to drive projects through completion.

The role also provides an opportunity to learn the business side of healthcare firsthand, including site selection, lease negotiations, construction, office operations, and the economics behind opening and operating new medical offices.

Site/ Travel

This is primarily an in-office position based at the company's headquarters in Long Island City. Most working days will be spent at headquarters; however, the role requires travel to new and prospective office locations.

Overnight travel is required, particularly in connection with new office openings in Pennsylvania and other out-of-state markets.

Key Responsibilities

New Office Openings & Project Management

  • Take a leading role in coordinating the pre-opening process for new medical offices.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, checklists, and status reports for each new location.
  • Coordinate multiple vendors and internal departments to ensure locations are fully operational and ready to open on schedule.
  • Identify potential delays, missing items, or operational issues early and take ownership of resolving them.
  • Manage multiple new-office projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Serve as a central point of coordination among Business Development, Operations, IT, Marketing, clinical teams, contractors, and outside vendors.

Procurement & Office Setup

  • Lead procurement and delivery coordination for medical supplies, furniture, fixtures, equipment, and other items required to open new medical offices.
  • Maintain comprehensive opening inventories and ensure all required items are ordered, delivered, installed, and functioning prior to opening.
  • Coordinate vendor scheduling and resolve delivery, installation, and punch-list issues.
  • Oversee the physical setup of new offices before opening, ensuring spaces are organized and ready for providers, employees, and patients.
  • Develop repeatable processes and systems to make future office openings more efficient and predictable.

Business Development & Commercial Real Estate

  • Work directly with senior leadership on the company's new-location growth strategy.
  • Participate in the evaluation of potential new markets and office locations.
  • Assist with demographic, competitive, trade-area, and real estate analysis.
  • Participate in site tours and learn how potential locations are evaluated.
  • Gain exposure to commercial lease negotiations, site economics, construction planning, and new-location investment decisions.
  • Help maintain the pipeline of prospective and approved locations from initial evaluation through opening.

Qualifications

  • Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-starter who naturally creates structure, stays ahead of deadlines, follows up relentlessly, and takes ownership of getting things done.
  • Ability to manage numerous deadlines and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable coordinating and holding accountable multiple internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resourceful problem solver who can identify issues and independently work toward solutions.
  • Strong Excel, Microsoft Office, and general technology skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Interest in commercial real estate, healthcare, business operations, or multi-location growth.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to new office locations, including overnight travel to Pennsylvania and other out-of-state markets as required for office openings.

Experience

Prior experience in commercial real estate or healthcare is not required.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated success managing complicated projects involving multiple people, vendors, deadlines, and deliverables.

Relevant backgrounds could include project management, business operations, consulting, retail or hospitality expansion, facilities, healthcare administration, corporate real estate, or other roles requiring strong organizational and execution skills.
