Director, Business Development, Sales

About Zumper

Zumper is building a smarter future for multifamily renting and marketing. For more than a decade, we’ve helped millions of renters find their next home, giving us first-hand knowledge of how people search for, discover, and choose where to live.

Today, Zumper serves both sides of the rental market. Millions of renters use our marketplace to find their next home, and the teams behind those properties use our platform to reach renters with tools that simplify marketing across every channel and touchpoint.

Zumper’s investors include Kleiner Perkins, Goodwater Capital, Headline, Dawn Capital, and Blackstone. As we enter our next chapter, we're looking for people who want to challenge how things have always been done and help move renting forward. Come build with us.

About this opportunity

We're looking for a relentless Director, Business Development, Sales to own the top of our growth engine — identifying, pursuing, and closing net-new enterprise accounts from first outreach through signed contract. You'll build and manage your own pipeline, run a disciplined outbound motion, and navigate complex, multi-stakeholder deals from cold to close.

This role is built for someone who thrives in the hunt: you love the blank-slate challenge of a new prospect, you're energized by competition, and you know how to turn "not interested" into a meeting. Once a deal closes, you'll partner closely with our Expansion and Renewal teams to ensure a seamless handoff and that the customer relationship is set up for long-term success. If you're a self-directed closer who wants credit for what you create and a growth path you control, this is your seat.

This role reports to our SVP, Sales & Marketing.

What you'll do

  • Build and manage your own pipeline from scratch through outbound prospecting, cold outreach, and competitive displacement — consistently developing net-new opportunities across your territory
  • Lead complex, multi-stakeholder sales cycles from first conversation to signed contract, including discovery, demo, negotiation, and close
  • Multi-thread across economic buyers, champions, and technical evaluators to build broad organizational alignment and protect deals throughout the process
  • Maintain disciplined pipeline hygiene and deliver accurate forecasts within ±10% of committed close each quarter
  • Complete thorough handoffs to Expansion and Renewal teams post-close, setting every new account up for long-term success
  • Travel up to 50% of the time during peak season (May–October) to attend field events, meet prospects in-person, and close key opportunities

Who you are

  • 7–10 years of multi-family sales experience, with a background in building industry relationships and a strong, consistent history of sales performance
  • A strong networker, communicator & leader
  • A proven negotiator of complex, multi-stakeholder deals including pricing, contract terms, and multi-year agreements — with a track record of closing at or above quota
  • A strategic problem solver who can develop solutions and has an eye for continuous improvement
  • Experience in MarTech, AdTech, or SaaS sales strongly preferred; familiarity selling into property management, multifamily, or real estate tech is a plus

Compensation

The US total target compensation for this role, including base salary and variable earnings, is $200,000 – $225,000. Where an offer falls within that range depends on your experience, skills, and the cost of labor in your local market — we benchmark against several U.S. geographic tiers and adjust accordingly.

  • Team activities, virtual company-wide hosted games, and virtual happy hours
