Job brief


Content Designers work closely with our government and non-profit partners to guide the creation and delivery of clear, helpful, and human-centered content that enhances every stage of the user experience. In this role, you will collaborate with product teams to deeply understand user and business needs, map content journeys, and create intuitive, accessible content that helps users achieve their goals with confidence. This role requires a thoughtful balance of content strategy, content writing, and user-centered thinking to deliver digital experiences that are not only usable but genuinely supportive and empowering

  • Target start date: May 20, 2025
  • Starting salary range: $112,000.00 - $125,000.00 annually for a permanent, indefinite-term position. For a fixed-term contract, the salary will be prorated accordingly and confirmed at the time of the offer.

What you'll do


User Research & Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth research to understand user behaviours, needs, and motivations across platforms and product types.
  • Analyze product functionality and user interactions through content audits.
  • Use tools such as surveys, interviews, and usability testing to validate assumptions and uncover pain points with users.
  • Translate research into actionable insights—such as user personas, journey maps, and design implications.
  • Champion inclusive, accessible content design decisions based on qualitative and quantitative data, as well as best practices.
  • Identify opportunities by framing problems, formulating hypotheses, and testing assumptions to generate insights that inform user-centered content design.
  • Facilitate and contribute to stakeholder workshops to build alignment on user-centred outcomes.


Content Strategy:

  • Define and evolve content strategies that align with both user goals and product vision.
  • Map content across the user journey to ensure clarity, continuity, and value at every interaction.
  • Lead ideation and brainstorming sessions that generate strategic and creative content approaches.
  • Design content models, information architecture, and user flows that guide intuitive navigation and product comprehension.
  • Embed content planning early in the design process to anticipate system needs and scale effectively.


Content Design & UX Writing:

  • Leverage human-centred design methods and design thinking principles to guide content development.
  • Translate user stories into content and demonstrate how the content fits within a larger strategy
  • Write intuitive, inclusive, and brand-aligned interface content, including microcopy, error messages, tooltips, onboarding flows, labels, CTAs, and in-app messages based on user research insights.
  • Use plain language and conversational tone to design content that meets user needs and makes complex processes easy to understand while aligning with compliance requirements.
  • Balance visual and verbal elements to enhance comprehension and drive meaningful user actions.
  • Collaborate in iterative design environments by contributing to prototypes and high-fidelity designs with content embedded from the outset that meets user needs.
  • Apply voice and tone consistently by tailoring language across different touchpoints and audience needs.


Testing & Evaluation:

  • Plan and execute usability testing focused on content comprehension and effectiveness.
  • Leverage user insights and analytics to assess performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Continuously iterate on content and structural decisions to enhance clarity, accessibility, and engagement.
  • Incorporate feedback loops into the content lifecycle to drive long-term value and responsiveness to user needs.


Content Governance:

  • Develop, maintain, and evolve content standards, style guides, and tone-of-voice frameworks.
  • Ensure consistency in terminology, structure, and formatting across all digital products and channels.
  • Collaborate with product and design teams to integrate content into broader design systems.


Cross-functional Collaboration & Communication:

  • Partner with product managers, designers, researchers, marketers, and engineers throughout the product life cycle.
  • Present content plans, decisions, and rationale using plain language and visual storytelling.
  • Serve as a strategic voice in product conversations to ensure content is embedded in design and development from the outset.
  • Help build shared understanding across disciplines by advocating for user needs and the role of content in delivering value.
  • Coach and mentor peers in content design practices and contribute to team learning and development initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience connecting content strategy and content design decisions to business goals and user needs.
  • Experience working in Agile environments, with a strong understanding of how iterative design supports user-centered outcomes, particularly within government or public sector contexts.
  • Experience writing for web and mobile platforms, with a solid understanding of content patterns and UX best practices for a seamless and consistent user experience across the entire product journey.
  • Experience with accessibility standards, content design standards for use with common assistive technologies and inclusive content design principles.
  • Comfortable using data and analytics to evaluate content performance and make informed improvements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of prototyping techniques.
  • Experience working with a content management system such as Drupal or WordPress
  • Experience applying human-centred design methodologies to uncover user insights and shape content strategies.
  • Strong understanding of UX design principles and the role of content within the end-to-end product development cycle.
  • Ability to conduct or collaborate on user research to inform content strategy and design decisions.
  • Proven ability to communicate content strategy, rationale, and decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative mindset with experience working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers.
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining content guidelines, voice and tone frameworks, and contributing to design systems.
  • Active involvement in the UX or content design community is a plus.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is a nice-to-have.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, and prototyping tools is a nice-to-have.
