Communications Director

WHO WE ARE

Vivazen launched with a disruptive idea: that a small, plant-powered shot could outperform the synthetic stimulants dominating convenience counters. Over a decade later, we’ve not only proven it, we’ve defined the category. As the original brand to bring kratom-based products to market, we’ve since expanded into a powerful portfolio of clean, effective botanical blends with more than 700 million servings sold nationwide.

Retailers rely on Vivazen to drive real revenue in minimal space. Consumers trust us for fast-acting, feel-good energy they can count on. And behind it all is a business built for speed, ownership, and performance.

At Vivazen, you won’t wait for permission or promotion. From day one, you’ll run a real territory with clear goals, visible numbers, and the support to win. As we enter a new phase of rapid growth, we’re building a team that’s as ambitious as the opportunity. If you're motivated by autonomy, accountability, and upward mobility—and you want to help shape the future of natural performance, you’ll go far at Vivazen.

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Communications Director leads Vivazen’s communications and public affairs strategy, driving message development, media engagement, and integrated campaign execution across earned, paid, owned, and stakeholder channels. This role oversees day-to-day communications strategy, proactively shaping external narratives while managing reactive communications and high-priority issues.

Reporting into Legal and Corporate Affairs, this position works cross-functionally with commercial, public affairs, and government affairs teams and partners closely with external agencies. We’re seeking a strategic, execution-focused communications leader who operates with independence, strong judgment, and agility in a fast-moving, regulated environment.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  •  Develop and lead comprehensive communications strategies that align with organizational goals, ensuring cohesive messaging across internal and external audiences and adapting plans in response to evolving business priorities.
  •  Oversee execution of proactive and reactive media engagement, partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to identify opportunities, craft compelling narratives, and secure strategic media coverage that enhances brand credibility.
  •  Serve as a primary author on high-visibility communications assets, including press releases, statements, executive talking points, Q&A documents, speeches, op-eds, briefing materials, and other external-facing collateral.
  •  Manage crisis communications readiness and response, anticipating risks, monitoring sentiment, and coordinating real-time communications plans during sensitive or urgent situations with disciplined judgment.
  •  Shape and steward the company’s narrative across channels, including owned digital platforms, social media, thought leadership placements, and integrated public affairs campaigns that influence key stakeholders and legislative audiences.
  •  Direct and collaborate with external agencies and vendors, setting strategic priorities, providing editorial oversight, and ensuring third-party partners deliver on quality, timelines, and ROI.
  •  Establish and track performance metrics to evaluate communications impact, leveraging analytics and reporting insights to iterate strategy, optimize messaging effectiveness, and demonstrate value to senior leadership.
  •  Balance competing priorities across corporate, commercial, and public affairs functions, making informed decisions that uphold organizational integrity while maximizing strategic opportunities.
  •  Act as a trusted advisor to business and functional leaders, elevating communications thinking, coaching spokespeople, and reinforcing best practices for message discipline, audience engagement, and stakeholder influence.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING

  • 7–10+ years of progressive experience in communications or public affairs, including demonstrated leadership of high-impact, multi-channel campaigns within complex organizations.
  •  Experience in CPG, healthcare, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated industries, with a clear understanding of compliance considerations, reputational risk, and stakeholder sensitivity.
  •  Proven track record of developing and executing integrated communications strategies that influence public perception, support business objectives, and deliver measurable results.
  •  Director-level experience with full ownership of communications initiatives, including strategy development, cross-functional alignment, execution oversight, and performance accountability.
  •  Demonstrated expertise in media relations and narrative development, with the ability to craft compelling messaging, manage spokesperson preparation, and drive earned media outcomes.
  •  Experience partnering cross-functionally with legal, commercial, public affairs, and government affairs teams, balancing business priorities with regulatory and reputational considerations.
  •  Hands-on proficiency with communications and media monitoring tools (e.g., Cision or comparable platforms), with the ability to analyze sentiment, measure impact, and translate insights into strategic recommendations.
  •  Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a portfolio of high-visibility materials such as press releases, executive talking points, op-eds, crisis statements, and strategic communications plans.
