Store Manager - The Citizenry

The Citizenry - now part of Havenly Brands - is a modern home brand created to inspire people to fill their homes with more meaningful items crafted by the best artisans around the world. Our team partners with thousands of artisans all over the world to bring their storied, time-tested craftsmanship to the modern home. Our goal? Create a new type of home decor shopping experience that delivers inspiring designs ‒ and the stories behind them ‒ with unprecedented standards of quality, transparency, and social responsibility.

We’re looking for a Store Manager to play a critical leadership role in our Soho store. Our ideal candidate is experienced and a team player — willing to go above and beyond to deliver a truly exceptional customer experience to The Citizenry community.

You’ll help shape and execute standards of excellence, including a robust trade and B2B program that positions The Citizenry as the go-to destination for design professionals in New York City and beyond. You’ll serve as a trusted resource for the trade community, offering design inspiration and styling expertise to clients while representing the brand with authenticity and excellence.

The cherry on top? Your work will progress The Citizenry’s brand mission, helping to preserve artisanal craftsmanship and provide sustainable income to thousands of artisans around the world.

What You’ll Do

Store Management and Operations:

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team focused on exceptional customer experience, sales growth, and long-term client relationships.
  • Oversee all aspects of store operations, including sales performance, merchandising, inventory management, scheduling, and daily execution.
  • Serve as a passionate brand ambassador, delivering elevated service while maintaining strong product and brand knowledge.
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor team members to support individual growth and overall store success.
  • Drive business performance by identifying opportunities, analyzing trends, and executing strategies to exceed sales goals and KPIs.
  • Ensure operational excellence across POS systems, inventory control, visual merchandising, and store presentation standards.

Trade & B2B Development

  • Lead and grow The Citizenry’s trade and B2B business from the Soho store, partnering closely with the broader Trade team to foster growth within the NYC design community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with interior designers, architects, developers, and other trade professionals while delivering white-glove support throughout the client journey.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on trade programs, events, exclusive offerings, and initiatives that deepen engagement and drive repeat business.
  • Represent the brand at local design industry events and train store teams to identify and support trade opportunities.

ATTITUDES & BEHAVIORS

  • You’re a natural leader. You’ve got management, communication, and organizational skills that  can’t be matched.
  • You’re strategic (and also a bit quirky). You’ve got a knack for solving highly complex operational  problems — and find them exciting.
  • You’re a force of positivity. You can motivate and manage a team, even when you’re under  pressure.
  • You own it. You own your responsibilities, you own where you can improve, and you stand behind  your decisions.
  • You’re entrepreneurial and scrappy. You’re comfortable in a fast-paced environment and interacting with VIPs, our Trade and B2B customers.
  • You’re passionate. Beyond the business acumen, you’re interested in design & travel, and believe  in our brand.
  • You embody the brand’s style and core values.
  • You are customer focused. Our brand revolves around delivering an exceptional and differentiated customer experience. With that, you aim to make each customer experience better and will never settle for “that is good enough”
  • You are a team player and are capable of empathizing with others. You consider yourself to have an above average “E.Q.”

Who You Are:

  • Proven 5+ years of specialty retail experience, including leadership or management experience within a strong brand environment.
  • Furniture and/or home décor experience preferred, ideally within a strong retail environment that includes trade or B2B client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams, driving sales growth, and consistently exceeding business goals and performance metrics.
  • A confident, people-focused leader with a positive, energetic approach and a strong commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to motivate teams, manage priorities, and make thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (bonus points for additional language skills).
  • Highly organized, proactive, and solutions-oriented with strong attention to detail and operational follow-through.
  • Flexible schedule availability, including weekends, evenings, and special events as needed.
  • Ability to carry 25–50 lb. boxes as well as bend, reach, lift, and move stock and products.

Perks and Benefits:

  • Generous PTO, paid parental leave, and volunteer days
  • Health, dental, vision, disability
  • 401(k) + Match
  • Furniture discounts, free design services, and annual merchandise credit
  • A warm, creative, inclusive culture that values your point of view

ABOUT THE CITIZENRY

The Citizenry is a modern home brand created to inspire people to fill their homes with more meaningful items crafted by the best artisans around the world.

We believe a design can only be as beautiful as the environment in which it’s made, so we demand quality – not just in the products we create, but also in the lives of the artisans we work with. We partner with thousands of artisans to craft our exclusive collections, and on average, they are paid wages two times the Fair Trade requirement. Together, we are setting new standards for retail.

We chose the name “The Citizenry” to reflect the collective of individuals – artisans, designers, and dreamers – who rally together across cultures and continents to bring our collections to life.

As an equal opportunity employer, we celebrate diversity and believe our team is better when we have different perspectives, identities, origins, and abilities working together.

We welcome your application and look forward to getting to know you and your story
