Position Overview

As a Junior Data Scientist at Mikata Health, you will play an integral role in developing and enhancing our AI medical scribe. Mentored by an experienced Data Scientist, you will engage in creating innovative AI applications, crafting new use cases, and analyzing complex data sets to refine our technology and improve its adoption in clinical settings. This role is ideal for someone early in their career—curious, eager to learn, and passionate about using data to drive decision-making in a healthcare startup environment.

Key Responsibilities

Data Collection & Processing

• Work with structured and unstructured datasets. 
• Engage in data preparation, processing, and visualization.
• Assist with data cleaning, transformation, and preparation for analysis, modeling and use.

Analytics & Insights

• Conduct exploratory data analysis required to support the product or team.
• Support in developing dashboards and regular reporting to provide other team members with data they require.
• Help monitor key metrics and alert the team to anomalies or performance shifts.

Modeling & Machine Learning (Introductory Level)

• Collaborate across teams to develop use cases that address real-world clinical challenges.
• Implement and refine AI models and develop and validate improvements to our product.
• Conduct robust data analytics to evaluate the effectiveness of the product and contribute to performance optimization.
• Support senior data scientists in building and validating predictive models.
• Contribute to A/B testing frameworks and evaluate results.

Collaboration

• Support and collaborate with teams across the company.
• Document methodologies, findings, and experiments clearly and concisely.
• Participate in regular review meetings to present findings and propose recommendations.

Competencies and Skills

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s or higher preferred). Candidates from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Whether your degree is in Biology, Computer Science, Data Science, Linguistics, Statistics, Psychology, or anything else, what's most important is the skills and experience you’ve gained.
• Foundational Data Skills: A foundational understanding of machine learning algorithms, statistical methods, and data manipulation.
• Programming and Experience:  Experience with programming languages (we use Python, Javascript, and Postgresql) and version control. Ability to use SQL databases (Postgres) and extract data programmatically. Also experience with natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLM), or multimodal models. Experience with cloud infrastructure is also beneficial (AWS S3, Lambda, RDS)
• Analytical Thinking: A curious, questioning mindset with attention to detail. Excellent at problem solving.
• Communication: Ability to explain data concepts and findings clearly to non-technical team members.
• Collaboration: Works well across teams and welcomes feedback to grow.
• Growth Mindset: Excited to learn about healthcare, SaaS, and data science best practices.
• Bonus: Health tech experience is preferred but not required.
