We’re committed to building great products that solve real problems using web and mobile products.

Our team enjoys the flexibility of remote work, utilizing tools like Asana, Slack, Notion, and Zoom for collaboration. We gather quarterly at our main office in Carlsbad, CA, fostering our work relationships.

About the Work

We’re seeking a UX Engineer with expertise in modern web technologies to support our team in improving our software. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in front-end technologies, possess a strong aesthetic sense, and have a solid understanding of visual design principles. This position is often responsible for interpreting high-fidelity mockups from our UX team and translating them into seamless, responsive, and user-friendly interfaces.

The UX Engineer is embedded on a multidisciplinary product team, and reports to the product team’s Engineering Manager. In this role, you can expect to:

  • Take Ownership of the User Experience: Partner with UX Designers and Product Managers to bring valuable insights to design discussions, leveraging your familiarity with existing UI/UX patterns to craft effective design solutions.
  • Collaborate and Pair with Teammates: Work closely with designers and developers, actively participating in code reviews and fostering a culture of quality and shared learning.
  • Ensure Seamless Deployment: Deploy updates to production effortlessly, contributing to a workflow that supports frequent, high-quality releases.
  • Maintain Design Integrity: Proactively address UI/UX debt by ensuring alignment with design system specifications and striving for consistency across products.
  • Implement Accessible and Efficient Designs: Develop accessible, responsive user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and React. Collaborate with engineers to refine solutions and adhere to code review best practices.

Who We Look For

The best fits for any role on the Planning Center team are people embodying our Core Values:

  • Engage with Humility - We actively participate with openness and receptiveness. We are ready to listen, learn, and speak thoughtfully and kindly—regardless of skill level, expertise, or place on the org chart.
  • Invest in our team - We give our time and energy to our team’s success—improving collaboration with effective communication, making space for diverse perspectives, sharing knowledge, and asking questions.
  • Do Our Best Work - We aspire to do our best possible work—continually looking for ways to improve the quality of our individual output and contribute to our team's overall success and growth.
  • Focus on Customer Impact - We advocate for our customer’s best interests in our decision-making—we can trace the goal of every project back to creating positive value for our customers.
  • Think Holistically, Work Iteratively - We focus on taking practical steps towards our goals with an awareness of the broader context—thinking big, working small.

We believe the strongest teams comprise people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, and we are committed to cultivating that diversity here at Planning Center. We're building an inclusive, supportive place for you to do your best work.

The Hiring Process

During the hiring process, you’ll have a chance to interact with several members of our team. We strongly encourage you to bring any questions to anybody you interact with. You’re interviewing us as much as we’re interviewing you.

The teammates you’ll encounter along the way:

  • Our Talent Acquisition Specialist
  • Several UX Engineers from various teams
  • The engineering manager you'll report to

Applications will be accepted until 9AM PST on January 22, 2025.

Below is an outline of the steps in our hiring process.

  • Step one: Apply with a resume, cover letter, and work samples (Portfolio, Github, etc.). Your cover letter should speak directly to this position. We want to know what got you into front end work and design, how your experience has set you up for success in this role, and why you want to join the Planning Center team. If you’ve applied in the past, feel free to apply again.

(A word of caution for those using AI cover letters: When compared to the hundreds of other candidates who did the exact same thing, it becomes painfully obvious who took the AI first draft. If you're going to use these tools, we ask that you use them well. Please give our recruiter something a bit more human to read.)

  •  Step two: Initial phone call with our Talent Acquisition Specialist so we can get to know one another
  •  Step three: Interview over Zoom with a few people from the team.
  • Step four: An online coding assessment to get a rough understanding of your experience
  •  Step five: Technical interview over Zoom with the Hiring Manager and a few people from the team
  •  Step six: Pending all goes well, we'll extend an offer
