About the role

AGent is seeking a detail-oriented Senior Accountant to be a key contributor on our finance team — supporting the full monthly close cycle, maintaining accurate financial records, and driving the automation initiatives that allow us to operate at the speed our growth demands.

This role sits at the intersection of accounting excellence and operational efficiency. You're not just here to close the books — you're here to make the books better. You bring a continuous improvement mindset to everything you touch, and you're excited to modernize accounting workflows in a high-growth energy AI company. If you're energized by clean energy's mission and want a role with real visibility and a clear path to grow, this is it.

Responsibilities

Month-End Close

  • Own and execute assigned areas of the month-end close: journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations — on schedule, every time
  • Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring completeness and accuracy in accordance with GAAP
  • Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and variance analysis for management review
  • Maintain and improve the close calendar, proactively flagging risks and driving timely resolution of open items

Cash & Bank Reconciliation

  • Perform daily and monthly cash reconciliations across multiple bank accounts, ensuring all transactions are recorded accurately
  • Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner
  • Support cash flow forecasting by maintaining up-to-date cash position reporting

Customer Payments

  • Accrue customer payments accurately and promptly
  • Maintain an audit-ready customer payments schedule, working closely with the Energy Markets and Engineering teams to account for underperformance, portfolio effects, or other items impacting customer payments
  • Assist in the timely release of customer payment batches at the end of each program season
  • Work with Sales to ensure contract compliance with payment timing requirements

Commissions Accounting

  • Calculate and process quarterly sales commissions in accordance with compensation plans, ensuring accuracy and timely payment
  • Maintain commission schedules and support accrual entries, reconciling actuals to estimates each period
  • Partner with Sales to resolve commission disputes and support plan modeling as the business scales

Automation & Process Improvement

  • Identify manual, repetitive accounting tasks and lead or support automation initiatives using tools such as Excel (Power Query/Macros), QBO workflows, or third-party automation platforms
  • Document standard operating procedures for key accounting processes and maintain up-to-date process documentation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Finance to streamline data flows between systems
  • Champion a continuous improvement mindset on the finance team — propose, test, and implement better ways of working

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5-7 years of accounting experience; public accounting background a plus
  • Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
  • Proficiency in Excel; experience with ERP systems (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar)
  • Experience with cash reconciliations and month-end close processes
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

  • Experience in energy, cleantech, project-based, or subscription-revenue businesses
  • Familiarity with distributed energy resources (DERs), behind-the-meter generation, or similar infrastructure business models
  • Exposure to AI tools and a genuine interest in using them to improve accounting workflows

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, performance bonus, and early-stage equity
  • 100% employer-paid Health, Dental, and Vision premiums for full-time employees
  • Two health plan options: traditional plan with FSA, or HDHP with company-funded HSA
  • Basic Term Life Insurance + voluntary insurance options
  • Flexible PTO
  • Fully remote — work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Direct access to the founding team and real ownership of your work from day one
