JOB TITLE: Assistant Store Manager

LOCATION: Cafe Matcha

REPORTS TO: Cafe Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

WAGE: $23.00/hr + tips ($25.00 - $30.00/hr approximately)


The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for supporting the overall performance, culture, and daily operations of the cafe. This role partners closely with the Cafe Manager to develop team members, maintain operational excellence, and create an environment centered around hospitality, accountability, and teamwork. The ASM helps oversee scheduling, training, inventory, and shift execution while serving as a dependable leader and foundational presence within the cafe.

  • Support onboarding and training efforts while helping employees build confidence and operational knowledge.
  • Partner with the Cafe Manager to develop team performance, maintain morale, and support daily operations.

Customer Experience

  • Deliver and model exceptional hospitality while creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for guests.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and proactively to ensure a positive experience.
  • Ensure team members maintain strong knowledge of menu offerings, products, and service standards.
  • Set the tone for high-quality customer service and consistent guest engagement.

Operations & Safety

  • Promotes and enforces safe work practices, identifying and resolving potential hazards.
  • Support daily cafe operations to ensure cleanliness, organization, efficiency, and consistency.
  • Maintain company standards for food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety.
  • Oversee register operations, cash handling, opening/closing procedures, and POS responsibilities.
  • Support inventory management, product organization, and receiving deliveries.
  • Monitor store conditions and address operational or safety concerns proactively.
  • Ensure equipment, prep areas, and workstations are clean, stocked, and properly maintained.

Scheduling & Business Support

  • Assist the Cafe Manager with scheduling and staffing adjustments based on business needs.
  • Support labor management and operational efficiency to help drive overall store performance.
  • Assist with sales initiatives, promotions, and operational goals.

Sales & Profitability

  • Collaborates with the Cafe Manager to execute sales promotions and achieve sales goals.
  • Assists in identifying optimal staffing levels to meet business needs and control labor costs.
  • Contributes to increased profitability by ensuring efficient store operations and equipment maintenance.

Food Program Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of food handling, preparation, and health safety procedures.
  • Understand and confidently explain food offerings, including sandwiches, bagels, and toasts.
  • Restock and organize prep areas while supporting overall kitchen cleanliness and efficiency.
  • Assist with delivery organization and promptly communicate safety concerns to management.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of leadership experience in cafe, restaurant, or hospitality setting
  • Passion for hospitality and creating positive customer experiences in a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team setting while working efficiently under pressure.
  • Interest in matcha, tea, and specialty beverage culture.
  • Flexibility to attend quarterly team meetings, trainings, or company events that may occasionally take place outside of regular scheduled shifts.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and consistent availability, including a minimum commitment of three shifts per week.

Physical Requirements

  • Lift and carry up to 20 pounds without assistance.
  • Move quickly and efficiently throughout the cafe in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain strong close-range vision and attention to detail for drink preparation, cash handling, and order accuracy.
  • Bend, squat, reach, and perform cleaning, stocking, and other operational tasks as needed.
  • Remain on feet for extended periods throughout scheduled shifts.
  • Comfortably operate a POS system, cash register, or tablet device to accurately process customer orders and payments.
  • Demonstrate the hand dexterity and coordination needed to safely and efficiently operate espresso machines, steamers, grinders, and other café equipment while preparing beverages to company standards.

The pay range for this role is:

23 - 23.75 USD per hour (Cafe Matcha)
