About the Job

Are you purpose-led and ready to embark on a journey to help drive demand for cotton that is produced in a way that protects and restores the environment, and improves the livelihoods of cotton-farming communities? Join us at Better Cotton as Senior Claims Integrity Officer for the world’s largest cotton sustainability initiative – we support the implementation of more sustainable farming practices and farm livelihoods through our voluntary standard for nearly 3 million farmers in the Better Cotton network in 23 countries around the world.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we have ambitious 2020 targets which seek to reduce GHG emissions from cotton production, decrease synthetic pesticide use, improve soil health across our network, improve farm income and support women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers.

To do so, we also need to drive demand for the cotton produced by farmers that adhere to our farm-level standard, the Principles & Criteria. Another integral component of the Better Cotton Standard System is our Claims Framework and accompanying guidance, which serves as the tool that members, certified organisations and relevant stakeholders use to communicate and report on their involvement with the Better Cotton Standard System.

As the Senior Claims Integrity Officer, you will join our Claims & Integrity team, which is part of the broader Standards System Integrity function. You will be part of a small team responsible for implementing and managing a robust approach to Claims Integrity for the overall Better Cotton Standard System, with a direct reporting line to the Claims Integrity Manager.

Your Role and Responsibilities

In this role, you will be responsible for our:

Claims Monitoring & Enforcement

This work will involve:

  • The implementation of our Claims Monitoring Framework for the use of the claims outlined in our Claims Framework as well as our B2B and B2C product labels.
  • Performing effective claims monitoring, leveraging the use of Certification Bodies, as well as the integration of reporting and sampling tools to identify misuse.
  • The enforcement of claims conformity including:
  • Misuse by participating entities and non-participating entities including sanctions for misuse, incident management practices including suspension, withdrawals and removals of claims and notification of changes in claims use permissions.
  • Following safeguarding procedures and other mechanisms in place that enable stakeholders to submit complaints about implementation of the claims system.
  • Performing benchmarking and gap analysis on regulatory requirements for certification schemes in respect of claims and assisting with the development of internal processes towards compliance with relevant regulatory bodies charged with the enforcement of relevant regulations.

Claims Management System

  • Perform the review and approvals of controlled claims (under our Claims Framework) as well as the trademark licensing of our product labels and logo use to certified organisations and third-party organisations, as applicable.
  • Assist with the development and management of a system to capture feedback on claims use and operation of the claims system.
  • Help identify improvements to our data management processes and collect relevant information towards the further development of our Claims Framework and our organisational KPIs.

Member Support

As one of the main points of contact for retailer and brand members for the review and approval process for their claims, you will:

  • Respond to member queries on the approvals process, as needed, and provide information to internal teams to ensure a smooth review process.
  • Review claims submissions and respond directly to members if any adjustments or modifications are needed.
  • Engage with members who are not meeting our claims criteria and follow through on corrective action plans, as needed, in collaboration with the Demand and Engagement team.

The role of the Senior Claims Integrity Officer will also include any other responsibilities as agreed with their line manager.
