Better Cotton is seeking a dynamic professional to join its Global Large Farm team. Successful candidates will have a good balance between having technical expertise and being creative to re-design current data systems and adapt it to Better Cotton large farm contexts. The Field Digitalisation Coordinator will oversee data collection and analysis processes and support the large farm team and external stakeholders in making the best of farm-level data. Under the supervision of the Senior Manager for Large Farm Programmes & Partnerships, with a matrix reporting line to Better Cotton’s IT & Data Team, the Field Digitalisation Coordinator will play a key role in improving processes and creating data feedback loops that will contribute to continuous improvement and influence programmatic change at the field-level. By doing so, the Field Digitalisation Coordinator will play a key role in coordinating Better Cotton large farm data systems across large farm countries thereby contributing to measuring the impact of programmes and partnerships.

The Challenge

Looking ahead to 2030, we are targeting reducing greenhouse gasses (GHG) emissions from cotton production by half, making big cuts in synthetic pesticide use, improving soil health across our network, improving farm income and supporting women’s empowerment among farmers and farm workers. Better Cotton members have committed to reducing their carbon emissions within their supply chains and we are exploring ways to reward cotton farmers for their positive social and environmental impacts. Data plays a key role in understanding our progress.


Better Cotton is also evolving the way we work, having launched traceability to provide greater visibility of supply chains and will transition to a certification model to comply with increased regulatory requirements. The ability to efficiently collect the right data through the right channels considering contextual nuances and share insights back to key stakeholders expeditiously is essential to drive progress towards our impact target areas and maintain stakeholder engagement.


As the Field Digitalisation Coordinator, you will be responsible for coordinating, improving and adapting Better Cotton data systems for large farm programmes and partnerships.


Areas that play to your strengths

We are seeking a motivated person to join our Large Farm Team. In this role, you will work both independently and with the Large Farm Programmes, IT & Data, MEL, and local country teams. You will be responsible for:

 

  • Coordinate data systems for collecting and analysing data for continuous farm improvement and for measuring impact
  • Contribute to the improvement and adaptability of the existing system to better fit large farm contexts and partnerships
  • Support the collection and review of Better Cotton farm data and integration with PowerBI, Salesforce, and other tools
  • Support Better Cotton’s country staff and partners with finding more efficient technical solutions to manual data processing activities (e.g. using macros, PowerQuery, Python, etc.).
  • Collaborate in responding to requests for data analysis from members, partners, and donors in line with Better Cotton’s Data Communication Policy and in compliance with data privacy laws.
  • Collaborate with other relevant teams to bring improvements to field-level data quality.
  • Oversee data digitalisation pilots in large farm contexts by testing app and related dashboards, evaluating data quality collected via apps, and suggesting improvements, as necessary.
  • Support with producing Better Cotton’s regular data reporting for staff and members
  • Provide inputs for other departments (IT, Comms, Programmes, Fundraising, etc.), for specific meetings, and for external parties (partners, members, researchers, etc.) as needed.
  • Perform other tasks as agreed with the supervisor that contribute to the mission and aims of Better Cotton.


We are looking for someone who has

the following skills, knowledge, and experience:


Essential

  • Proven experience in digitalisation project management, preferably in the development sector. 
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Agronomy, or related field.
  • Proven interest in digital agriculture, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning
  • Experience in project management in a global organization working with geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience applying statistics to real-world data analysis and research
  • Experience assessing and improving data quality
  • Strong IT skills, in particular with Excel (PowerQuery, macros), databases, and business intelligence and analytics tools (PowerBI)
  • Experience using statistical analysis software (Python, R)
  • Pays attention to details, solves problems independently, and is persistent in accurately performing tasks
  • Ability to prioritise and plan effectively, working in a structured manner and to deadlines
  • Fluency in English and Portuguese, written and spoken.

 

Desirable

  • Familiarity with the cotton sector, sustainable agriculture, commodity supply chain, or related areas
  • Ability to coordinate with multicultural and cross-functional teams and support external stakeholders
  • Track record in a data management role
  • Proven interest and/or experience in voluntary sustainability standards
  • Experience in creating data visualisation for communications purposes
  • Experience with GIS
  • Experience facilitating learning in an international, multi-cultural setting

Working arrangements

The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and will be remotely based in Brazil. Better Cotton offers flexible working, with core hours being 10am – 4pm. The position may occasionally require limited travel.
