Careers at Capital B

Video Producer/Multimedia Producer

The Audience team works across the newsroom to ensure our journalism reaches people where they already are. We create social-first storytelling that helps audiences better understand the issues shaping Black communities through thoughtful reporting, compelling visuals, and platform-native video.

The Role

Capital B is looking for a Video Producer who is equal parts editor, motion designer, and visual storyteller.

This role is responsible for transforming our journalism into visually compelling videos across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging platforms. You'll collaborate with reporters, editors, and the audience team to develop social-first storytelling that is both informative and visually distinctive.

We're looking for someone with exceptional editorial instincts and an equally strong eye for design. The ideal candidate understands that great video isn't just about editing—it's about using animation, typography, pacing, graphics, sound, and visual hierarchy to help audiences better understand complex stories.

Whether you're creating a fast-turn breaking news video, animating archival photos, designing a data visualization, or building an explainer from scratch, you're constantly thinking about how visuals can deepen storytelling.

What You'll Do

  • Produce and edit short-form videos for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and other digital platforms
  • Design motion graphics, animated text, maps, charts, and other visual elements that strengthen storytelling
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors to transform written journalism into engaging visual narratives
  • Develop new visual formats and recurring video series that expand the reach of Capital B's reporting
  • Create visually compelling explainers that make complex issues easier to understand
  • Animate archival photography, documents, illustrations, and data to bring stories to life
  • Help establish and evolve Capital B's visual identity across video platforms
  • Edit interviews, field footage, and reporter-produced material into polished social-first stories
  • Maintain high editorial standards for accuracy, sourcing, accessibility, and visual quality
  • Stay current on platform trends, editing techniques, motion design, and emerging storytelling formats

Success Will Look Like

  • Your videos are visually memorable and instantly recognizable as Capital B.
  • You elevate our journalism through thoughtful animation, design, and motion
  • You consistently find creative ways to explain complicated topics through visuals.
  • You move quickly without sacrificing quality or editorial standards.
  • You contribute ideas that push our visual storytelling forward.
  • You collaborate effectively across editorial, audience, and design teams.

What You'll Bring

  • 3–5 years producing and editing digital video
  • Strong storytelling instincts and editorial judgment
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Strong working knowledge of After Effects and motion graphics
  • Excellent design instincts, including typography, composition, pacing, color, and visual hierarchy
  • Experience creating graphics, animations, and explainers for social media
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced newsroom
  • Experience working collaboratively with journalists, producers, and editors
  • Passion for journalism that serves Black communities
