About You
You love thinking about how to elevate our player experience, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and using data-driven insights to create personalized journeys that inspire long-term loyalty. You’re a leader who’s not afraid of rolling up your sleeves to build and scale lifecycle marketing initiatives that span across player acquisition, engagement, and retention, working in iterative cycles from ideation, testing, and measurement to help the team deliver their best work - regardless of the headwinds. You’ll ensure that Chess.com remains a trusted destination for all players—no matter their skill level.

What you'll do
- Build the Lifecycle Marketing Strategy: Develop and execute end-to-end lifecycle marketing strategies with a focus on deepening player engagement, retention, and revenue growth. You’ll design campaigns that guide players from their first move to falling in love with the game of chess, ensuring they stay connected and motivated long-term
- Identify Key Opportunities: Uncover new avenues for growth across owned and operated channels. You’ll work with key stakeholders to identify untapped opportunities and champion the resources needed to seize them, always keeping our players at the center of your strategy
- Own the Lifecycle Roadmap: Lead the creation and implementation of lifecycle marketing roadmaps that prioritize for impact. You’ll collaborate with Product Marketing, Product, Data, Engineering, and Content teams to build and execute campaigns that are seamlessly integrated with tentpole product features and player experiences to grow a love of chess. You’ll identify use cases and make recommendations on implementation of features & technologies that will support Chess.com’s long-term growth
- Nurture a High-Performing Team: Start as a hands-on leader while also mentoring and managing a high-performing team of lifecycle marketers who are passionate about chess and the player experience
- Data-Driven Optimization: Use data and player insights to refine our marketing initiatives, identify friction points, and continuously optimize the customer journey. You’ll work hand-in-hand with data analysts and researchers to ensure we’re delivering relevant, personalized experiences to players at every stage of their journey
Preferred Skills
- Extensive Lifecycle Marketing Experience: 10+ years of experience in lifecycle marketing, ideally with a focus on consumer products or games with MAUs of 10M+. A strong track record of driving engagement growth, improving player retention, and monetization
- Technical Expertise: A proven ability to collaborate with technical teams to implement marketing technologies and tools. Comfort with data analysis, segmentation, working with CRM platforms (e.g., Braze, Iterable, Sendgrid), and internal audience messaging tooling
- Analytical Mindset: Strong quantitative skills with a passion for using data to inform decisions. You know how to test, measure, and optimize marketing initiatives to maximize onboarding, player engagement and retention
- Passion for Chess: A deep passion for chess and its community. Whether you’ve played competitively or casually, you understand the nuances of the game and what motivates players at all levels. You are excited about Chess.com’s mission and vision to grow the game of chess
- Strategic & Empathetic Leadership: Strong leadership abilities with experience managing cross-functional teams. You can balance high-level strategy with hands-on execution and lead with empathy, adaptability, and agility in a fast-moving environment
- Industry Enthusiasm: An understanding of the gaming and esports ecosystem, mobile and web landscapes, and how chess fits into the broader context of online gaming. You’re constantly curious about how the industry is evolving and what players need to stay engaged long term and love to share your learnings
