About the role
CIBSE is seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead its Domestic Agenda, focusing on key initiatives that shape the future of domestic building services and energy efficiency. This role sits within the CIBSE Technical team, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to drive policy, technical guidance, research, training and events as well as strategic thinking. You will work closely with CIBSE’s Domestic Building Services Panel, the Homes for the Future Special Interest Group and other industry professionals and government bodies to ensure the development of practical solutions and effective responses to emerging challenges in the domestic building sector.
What you will do
- Leading and coordinating CIBSE’s work on the domestic sector, including energy efficiency, decarbonisation, smart homes, etc.
- Managing the development and update of technical guidance, including publications, reports, and policy recommendations.
- Representing CIBSE in industry and government forums, working with stakeholders to influence industry practices and policy.
- Engaging with CIBSE members and external partners to understand emerging trends and technical needs in the domestic sector.
- Informing research projects and developing initiatives to advance knowledge and best practices within the domestic building services sector.
- Delivering webinars, workshops, and training events on domestic building services topics.
- Providing technical support and advice to internal teams and members on related domestic issues.
- Contributing to the development of CIBSE’s strategic approach to decarbonisation and sustainability in domestic buildings.
- Lead and drive the development of CIBSE’s technical and policy agenda related to domestic building services.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, including government departments, regulators, industry groups, and CIBSE members.
- Provide expert technical guidance on issues such as domestic energy efficiency, renewable technologies, and future-proofing homes for decarbonisation.
- Represent CIBSE at national and international forums and contribute to relevant working groups and committees.
- Coordinate the preparation and review of technical publications and contribute to CIBSE’s knowledge resources.
- Inform and report on research projects and initiatives relevant to the domestic sector, ensuring high-quality outcomes.
- Organise and deliver events, conferences, and CPD activities to share knowledge and promote CIBSE’s domestic agenda.
- Collaborate with colleagues across CIBSE to ensure the domestic agenda aligns with broader institutional objectives.

What you will need to be successful
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in building services engineering, particularly within the domestic sector, with a passion for driving change in the industry. You will be a proactive, strategic thinker with excellent communication and leadership skills.
Requirements
- Degree in Budling Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
- Proven experience in working in the domestic sector.
- Experience in delivering technical guidance and technical presentations.
- Experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Passion for sustainability and advancing the domestic sector.
- Commitment to professional development and continuous learning.

- Post-graduate qualification.
- Membership of relevant industry bodies.
- Knowledge of the policy and regulatory framework in the UK and non-UK regions.
