DESRI (formerly D. E. Shaw Renewable Investments) is a market-leading owner and operator of renewable energy projects throughout the United States. We have acquired or developed approximately 13 gigawatts of contracted capacity across a portfolio of over 85 renewable energy projects in 24 states.
We are looking for a resourceful and driven professional to join DESRI, based out of the firm’s Hyderabad, India office. The candidate will be a part of Design and Engineering team and will regularly interact with the U.S. and Hyderabad-based teams, as well as external parties. The candidate will be a part of a small, inclusive, highly skilled team responsible for supporting DESRI’s portfolio of wind, solar, and storage projects within a dynamic environment that values collaboration, thoughtful problem solving, and attention to detail.
What you'll do
In this role, you will serve as a technical resource for BESS design and commissioning activities, supporting the reliability and performance of DESRI's storage fleet from design through operation.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Review 30/60/90% BESS engineering design packages — civil, electrical, and structural and provide technical comments to ensure alignment with NFPA 855, NEC Article 706, and UL 9540/9540A requirements.
- Evaluate battery system architecture, including rack/module layout, BMS hierarchy, PCS sizing, MV transformer integration, and balance-of-plant (BOP) design.
- Provide BESS/PCS QA/QC support, including inspection, technical exhibit prep and testing activities.
- Support procurement technical evaluations for battery systems, PCS/inverters, transformers, and switchgear; assess OEM submittals against project specifications.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate should hold –
- B.Tech/M.Tech in Electrical Engineering or any relevant field with 2-6 years of experience in BESS design, commissioning, or technical asset management for utility-scale energy storage or solar + storage projects.
- Working knowledge of BESS subcomponents: battery modules and racks, BMS architecture, PCS/inverters, EMS/SCADA systems, HVAC/chiller systems, fire suppression systems, MV transformers, and switchgear.
- Familiarity with relevant US codes and standards: NFPA 855, NEC Article 706, UL 9540/9540A, NFPA 70E, IEEE 80, and NERC reliability standards.
- Experience analysing operational or commissioning data to diagnose system faults or performance deviations in complex electrical systems.
- Hands-on commissioning experience with large-format lithium-ion battery systems, including BMS/PCS/EMS integration, FAT/SAT execution, and capacity testing.
