Applications are now welcome for the role of GAA Safeguarding Coordinator who shall play a key role in the promotion of safeguarding and protection of children and young people in the Association. Reporting to the GAA Safeguarding Manager, the successful candidate will be a key member of the Association’s National Safeguarding Team with specific responsibilities relating to safeguarding risk assessments, safeguarding compliance and any internal or external safeguarding audits or assessments.
Responsibilities include:
· Coordinate and oversee the completion of the “Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and Child Safeguarding Statement” process at agreed intervals, as completed by Clubs, Counties, Provincial Councils and Central Council.
· Coordinate and oversee the completion of the “Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and Child Safeguarding Statement” process for our oversea units.
· Complete internal safeguarding compliance audits and or safeguarding compliance assessments on our own units.
· Conduct safeguarding compliance audits at camps at Club and or County Level.
· Deliver training to Clubs and Counties as required on the child safeguarding risk assessment and or safeguarding compliance audit process.
· Assist with the implementation of the Association’s Child Safeguarding Policy at Club and County level.
· Provide guidance to our units in dealing with alleged breaches of the Code of Conduct (Underage).
· Coordinate and assist the participation of the Association, at all levels, in any external safeguarding audits or assessments.
· Respond to queries relating to child safeguarding compliance from our units.
· Assist the Association as appropriate on safeguarding audit matters in liaison with other Sports NGBs, Government Agencies and Departments, Association units and other relevant bodies as deemed appropriate.
· Work closely with colleagues in Ladies Gaelic Football Association (LGFA) and the Camogie Association to ensure effective collaboration in the area of safeguarding compliance and safeguarding risk assessment across all 3 Associations.
· The position holder will also undertake any other such projects or responsibilities as may reasonably be delegated by his or her Manager.
Requirements
Essential
· A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the area of safeguarding and/or a relevant or related field;
· A third level degree (Minimum Level 7 NFQ);
· Knowledge of child safeguarding legislation on the island of Ireland and GAA and Gaelic Games Associations’ safeguarding policies;
· Experience in developing and or coordinating child safeguarding risk assessment or safeguarding audits.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders;
· Exceptional organisational skills with proven experience in working to tight deadlines and achieving set targets;
· Ability to maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail whilst working under pressure to strict deadlines;
· Ability to work independently on own initiative and perform as part of a team;
· Excellent administrative skills with a strong working knowledge of IT related packages and systems such as Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word);
· An interest in, and understanding of the activities, objectives, policies and structure of the GAA.
Desirable
· Previous experience of working within the GAA (or similar organisation) at a professional or volunteer capacity;
· The role holder must have access to a form of transport which will enable them to fulfil their responsibilities in full;
Other Requirements
• Ability to be flexible in performance of responsibilities; Role will require work at weekends and late evenings during some periods.
