At HawkCell, we’re tackling a real pain point in animal healthcare. While human diagnostic imaging have leaped forward, veterinary imaging has been stuck in the past, where slow and grainy images are still the norm. We’ve built AI solutions to denoise CT and MRI images, paired with a dedicated protocol library. This isn’t a human-adapted technology; it’s built from scratch using animal data, specifically for veterinary medicine.

We closed our Series A in 2024 and now we’re scaling in Europe, NORAM and APAC. We’re headquartered in Lyon, but our mindset is global. We are here to become the undisputed leader in animal imaging.

About the role

We’re looking for a experienced Data Scientist with deep learning experience to lead high-impact AI projects in medical imaging. You’ll work alongside researchers and engineers to push the boundaries of diagnostic imaging—from super-resolution to pathology detection—and help shape the future of our AI pipeline. This role involves mentoring junior team members, publishing research, and deploying real-world AI applications.

This role is based in Lyon, France.

What you'll do

• Lead development of models for denoising, synthetic contrast generation, and classification
• Design algorithms for segmentation, localization, and characterization of pathologies
• Collaborate with other DS team members and mentor junior profiles
• Ensure clean, maintainable code and scalable model packaging (Poetry/uv)
• Put models into production and help design robust evaluation pipelines
• Publish your work in peer-reviewed venues and represent Hawkcell in the AI community
• Contribute to IT topics and help bridge R&D and productionization

What we are looking for

• Must Have:
• • 4+ years of experience in deep learning applied to imaging
  • Proven track record of bringing models to production
  • Strong coding standards and experience with Git/GitHub collaboration tools
  • Proficiency in packaging tools like Poetry or uv
  • Published research papers and eagerness to continue publishing
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Ability to work in an international and English-first environment
• Nice to have:
• • Experience with Cloud environment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Knowledge of medical imaging, DICOM formats, clinical environments
  • Knowledge of medical software related norms and processes
  • Experience in a regulated domain
  • Experience in SaaS startups
  • Experience in or keen interest in Web-Dev or C++
