Principal Architect

About Linkly

Linkly is a PE-backed, Australian fintech focusing on payment integration solutions. We are a leading provider in ecommerce recurring billing, and our middleware powers over 200,000 terminals and processes over two billion transactions annually. Our applications support over 800 integrations into POS solutions. We have built our reputation through seamless integration of payment terminals and POS systems and are continuing to innovate in creating a terminal and acquirer independent payment solicitor for in-store. Our clients include major banks and retailers such as Woolworths, David Jones, JB Hi-Fi, and Bunnings.

Our goal is to continuously lead the payments industry with new technology delivering value to clients, which who include merchants, banks, acquirers and POS vendors, expanding our presence into other regions.

About the Role

We're currently looking for a Principal Architect to join our Sydney team, acting as the senior technical authority on in-store payment acceptance - and right now, that means sitting at the centre of something genuinely significant: Orbit, our open payments platform that's redefining what modern in-store payments can look like.

This is a role with real autonomy and scope. You'll shape the architecture of a new platform from the ground up, while ensuring our broader in-store estate continues to evolve and perform. Working closely with the CTO, the In-Store Dev Manager, and the Senior Product Manager, you'll also serve as the technical face of Linkly in front of acquirers, POS vendors, merchants, and integration partners.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Discovery, Design & Delivery

  • Drive the architecture and delivery of Orbit's in-store capabilities - this is our flagship platform, and you'll have genuine oversight of how it comes to life.
  • Lead architectural design for major acquirer programs, enterprise integrations, and non-standard POS engagements.
  • Own technical discovery across third-party and internal initiatives, including evaluation of SoftPOS and alternative payment acceptance approaches.
  • Design scalable solutions for high-touch merchant integrations requiring senior architectural input.
  • Own and evolve architectural knowledge across the full in-store estate: payment applications, EFT Server, Host Links, TMS, POS integrations, and adjacent platforms.

Orbit Roadmap & Product Collaboration

  • Partner with the Senior Product Manager to frame and prioritise work across the Orbit backlog, grounding decisions in technical feasibility and delivery sequencing.
  • Provide architectural input on feature scoping and hypothesis definition to support a fast, iterative product development approach.
  • Ensure engineering teams have the technical clarity and context needed to estimate, plan, and deliver with confidence.

Pre-Sales & Partnerships

  • Act as the principal technical voice in pre-sales engagements with acquirers, POS vendors, merchants, and integration partners.
  • Translate architecture into clear solution proposals and support RFP/RFI responses.
  • Guide partners through integration pathways, certification processes, and technical onboarding.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the In-Store Dev Manager on delivery alignment, estimation, and engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with Security on PCI compliance, key management, and encryption requirements.
  • Partner with the CTO on long-term technology strategy, platform evolution, and technical debt management.

What You'll Need

  • 8+ years' experience in a senior technical role within payments, fintech, or an adjacent regulated environment.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with EFTPOS terminal architecture, acquirer integrations, and POS certification processes.
  • Deep familiarity with terminal management systems, legacy payment platforms, and host link protocols across a large installed base.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical discovery and solution design for complex, enterprise-scale integration scenarios.
  • Proven ability to represent technical architecture in commercial contexts, including pre-sales engagements and partner-facing solution design.
  • Experience working across product, engineering, and commercial functions to shape roadmaps and drive delivery outcomes.

Our Values

  • Act like an owner - take accountability for architectural outcomes and think commercially about technology decisions.
  • Innovate - challenge assumptions, drive discovery of new products and integration approaches, and seek better ways of working.
  • Deepen Trust - build credibility through technical depth, honest communication, and consistent follow-through with internal teams, acquirers, and partners.
  • Care and respect - work inclusively, support team success, and represent customer and partner needs faithfully in technology decisions.
