The Head of Investment Accounting is a senior leadership role within a Bermuda-based reinsurance firm. This position oversees the accounting and reporting of the company’s investment portfolio, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with regulatory and internal standards. Reporting to the Controller, the Head of Investment Accounting leads the investment accounting function, including direct oversight of the Director of Investment Accounting and their team. This role requires a deep understanding of complex insurance investment structures, regulatory reporting (including U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory and Bermuda Monetary Authority requirements), and experience with Clearwater Analytics.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the investment accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda regulatory requirements.
- Directly supervise the Director of Investment Accounting, and other team members as needed, and indirectly manage the investment accounting team.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of data between SAP S/4HANA and Clearwater Analytics; resolve discrepancies and optimize workflows.
- Collaborate with Corporate Accounting, Investment Strategy and other stakeholders to provide timely & insightful comprehensive analytic packages for management, board and investor reporting on U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, Bermuda statutory, EBS, Embedded Value and non-GAAP basis.
- Lead the production of key investment accounting inputs to analyses
- Support external and internal audits and partner with compliance teams to maintain appropriate controls and documentation.
- Lead initiatives to automate and enhance accounting processes, improve reporting efficiency, strengthen the internal control framework, and improve analysis of investment results.
- Monitor, communicate and oversee changes in investment accounting and reporting under U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, and Bermuda regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with reinsurance operations, investment strategy and operations, corporate accounting, treasury, and risk teams to assess investment accounting implications of new strategies.
- Manage and design new investment accounting and reporting processes for new strategies, including new reinsurance treaties and consolidated investments.
- Lead the analysis, development, documentation, and maintenance of investment accounting policies in accordance with U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, Bermuda regulatory requirements.
- Serve as the primary technical accounting advisor for complex investments, including consolidated and unconsolidated VIEs and other alternative investments.
- Partner with actuarial, corporate accounting and investments on the development and maintenance of investment related non-GAAP reporting measures and their associated implications on financial reporting and analytics.
- Oversee the production of monthly and quarterly comprehensive investment analytic packages for management, board and investor reporting on U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory, Bermuda statutory, EBS, Embedded Value and non-GAAP basis.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent international designation preferred.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in investment accounting and reporting, including experience in the insurance sector.
- Leadership experience managing accounting for complex investment portfolios.
- Proficiency in Clearwater Analytics is preferred.
- Proficiency in SAP S/4HANA is an asset.
- Prior experience in life and annuity insurance and / or reinsurance is required.
- Background in evaluating ALM strategies.
Required Skills
- Deep technical knowledge of investment accounting, including structured products and alternative asset classes.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, U.S. Statutory and Bermuda statutory reporting standards.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage medium team of Directly supervises the Director of Investment Accounting.
- Indirectly oversees a team of investment accountants through the Director.
- Responsible for performance management, coaching, and succession planning within the investment accounting function.
Location and Travel
