The Treasurer is a strategic executive leader responsible for establishing and leading Martello Re’s Treasury function and ensuring the optimal management of the balance sheet. This includes liquidity & collateral management, derivatives, capital markets, capital management, Asset/Liability management (ALM) and overall financial risk mitigation across the organization. This role requires comprehensive expertise in financial strategy, risk management, and capital markets with broad influence across all business lines and direct accountability for the function. The Treasurer will interface independently with the C-Suite, the Investment team, external asset managers, the Board of Directors, cedants and financing partners. The Treasurer will lead strategic initiatives and manage relationships with the firm’s most critical clients, partners and stakeholders.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build out the Treasury function in conjunction with the CFO, including developing the vision and building out the team.
  • Work closely with the Investments, Actuarial and Risk to oversee the holistic management of the balance sheet.
  • Direct the Treasury function including overseeing liquidity & collateral management, derivatives, capital management, Asset/Liability management (ALM), capital markets and banking relationships while ensuring alignment with Martello Re’s business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, implement and monitor a derivatives program including interest rate and currency hedges.
  • Develop and implement balance sheet management strategies and solutions to support the firm’s growth, competitive positioning and risk appetite to optimize risk-adjusted shareholder value.
  • Work with Investments to support the design and implementation of asset structuring solutions to provide capital efficient risk-adjusted yields.
  • Work closely with the Actuarial, Investments and Risk teams to implement the Internal Capital Model (ICM) and Risk-Adjusted Embedded Value (RAEV) frameworks into day-to-day risk and capital decision making; support the design and development of necessary models, tools and analytics accordingly.
  • Monitor and manage the company’s capital structure, debt portfolio, financial risk profile, capital management and dividend policy and liquidity/collateral risk policies.
  • Prepare and deliver insightful reports and recommendations to the C-Suite and Board regarding liquidity, capital, and financial risk.
  • Work closely with the C-suite to coordinate and optimize bank relationships.
  • Negotiate improvements and strategic change across functions, collaborating with senior management and functional leaders.
  • Provide strategic leadership for critical client relationships and interface independently with the C-Suite, the Board of Directors, external asset managers and cedants as needed.
  • Direct the short-term and long-term department staffing needs of the Treasury function.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, supporting career path planning and professional growth.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant market trends, dynamics, capital markets solutions and reinsurance solutions to inform the capital management strategy.
  • Anticipate market factors and regulatory changes that could influence balance sheet strategies and company position.
  • Recognized as a thought leader both internally and externally, creating formal networks with key decision makers across the organization.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Advanced degree in finance, economics, business, or a related field; CFA or similar designation preferred but not required.
  • 15+ years of relevant experience in Treasury, finance or capital markets, preferably within (re)insurance or asset management environments.
  • Proven experience managing derivatives and ALM risk, preferably with an asset-intensive US or Bermuda (re)insurer.
  • Extensive knowledge of insurance company investment portfolios including asset classes, asset allocation decisions and structured assets.
  • Track record of successfully leading risk or finance teams.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and managing external partnerships.
  • Familiarity with regulatory frameworks such as Bermuda and/or U.S. statutory insurance regulations and regulatory capital frameworks.
  • Deep expertise applied strategically across the organization.

Location and Travel

  • Martello Re welcomes applications for remote positions from candidates residing in the Eastern United States or in states where the company currently operates.
