The Senior Compliance Manager is responsible for the monitoring and ongoing improvement of the company’s compliance framework to assess the company’s adherence to applicable laws, regulations, treaties, and internal policies. This role will serve as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing compliance expertise to support strategic and operational objectives. The Senior Compliance Manager works closely with teams across the business to support operational effectiveness and foster a strong culture of compliance, reporting directly to the Chief Governance, Risk, and Compliance Officer.

 


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ongoing refinement of the company’s compliance program, including the development and implementation of applicable policies and procedures, and ensuring alignment with the company’s risk appetite and ERM framework.
  • Monitor and assess the company’s adherence to regulatory obligations, internal policies and procedures.
  • Maintain compliance registers (licensing, filings, training, conflicts of interest, etc)
  • Collaborating with the risk team on any non-compliance findings to determine risk impact to the company and develop and track any required remediation plans.
  • Collaborate with internal audit, risk, corporate governance, and legal functions to ensure an integrated governance approach.
  • Review reinsurance treaties and ensure compliance obligations are appropriately captured within internal controls and procedures; identifying gaps as needed.
  • Oversee the onboarding and annual screening requirements for blocks of business, including sanctions screening and third-party due diligence.
  • Prepare any suspicious activity reports (SARs) in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor regulatory developments in Bermuda and other relevant jurisdictions that may impact the company operations, including summary reporting to senior management, assisting in the assessment and implementation of necessary changes to existing policies or frameworks.
  • Support the CGRCO in preparing reports and presentations for senior management, the Board, and regulators.
  • Conduct compliance training and awareness initiatives across the company to promote understanding of regulatory obligations and the importance of policy adherence.
  • Maintain accurate records of compliance activities and findings for audit, regulatory, and Board review.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships across all areas of the company and at all levels
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, business, finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, or controls frameworks, preferably in (re)insurance or financial services.
  • Professional certification such as Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) or International Compliance Association (ICA) is advantageous.
  • Internal Audit Practitioner, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) is highly regarded.
  • Strong knowledge of Bermuda’s regulatory environment preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting with regulators, Boards, and senior executives.

  • In-depth knowledge of compliance and controls frameworks principles, regulatory obligations, and risk mitigation practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulations into actionable business guidance.
  • Strong analytical, attention to detail, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • High level of integrity, discretion, and professional judgement.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a dynamic fast-paced organization.
  • Collaborative and professional approach to working with cross-functional teams across geographies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages Compliance team members.
