Position Summary: Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and organized shop and surrounding areas. Performs daily cleaning and maintenance of the shop floor, common areas, exterior grounds, and shop equipment (including floor sweeper). Works under supervision and follows all site safety and hazardous-material procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain shop floor cleanliness daily: sweep, collect debris, remove metal shavings, wipe work surfaces, and spot-clean.
  • Operate and maintain floor sweeper and other cleaning equipment per manufacturer and site procedures.
  • Empty and clean all trash and recycling bins (interior and exterior) and ensure proper segregation and disposal of waste; follow hazardous-waste protocols and report unusual/regulated materials to supervision.
  • Clean and sanitize common areas: break rooms, restrooms, lockers, conference rooms, refrigerators, microwaves, and vending areas.
  • Maintain outdoor areas: employee smoking areas, walkways, loading zones, parking-lot trash pickup, and exterior trash receptacles.
  • Refill and maintain supplies in restrooms and common areas (soap, paper products, liners).
  • Follow all site safety policies including use of PPE, lockout/tagout awareness, confined-space awareness as applicable, and hazardous materials handling training.
  • Assist with special cleaning projects, seasonal tasks, and shop cleanups during changeovers or shutdowns.
  • Keep simple logs or checklists of daily tasks, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance experience; experience in industrial or fabrication environments is a strong plus.
  • Experience operating a floor sweeper or similar powered cleaning equipment.
  • Basic ability to follow written and verbal instructions, complete checklists, and maintain simple logs.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs), pushing/pulling, and repetitive motions.
  • Must wear required PPE (safety shoes, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, respirator when required).
