Position Description:

As a Data Center Engineering Intern at FlexGen, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful engineering work that directly supports the design, modeling, and reliability of power systems used in modern data center applications. This role sits within the broader engineering organization and works closely with members of the Power Systems, Application Engineering, and Data Center Engineering teams. You will support engineers who specialize in areas such as inverter-based resources, microgrid design, and system-level modeling, while collaborating with interns in parallel technical tracks across the team.

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Support Data Center technical solution evaluation , including data research, hardware configuration evaluation, and system model evaluation.
  • Support development of black start strategies and microgrid design concepts for high-reliability operations.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing inverter-based resource (IBR) controls and their integration into data center power architectures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to analyze technical requirements, review design packages, and support project development tasks.
  • Conduct research on electrical components, modeling tools, and emerging technologies relevant to data center and energy storage applications.
  • Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and engineering outputs to support team and client needs.


Position Requirements

  • Junior, Senior, or Master’s student pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Experience (coursework or projects) with power systems modeling, load flow analysis, microgrid design, or black start design.
  • Basic understanding of inverter-based resource technology and associated controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective communication and documentation abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and a team-oriented mindset.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Suite (particularly Excel).

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Familiarity with tools such as PSCAD, ETAP, PSS/E, or similar power systems modeling software.
  • Prior exposure to renewables, data center electrical systems, microgrid projects, or energy storage applications.
