ABOUT THE ROLE

The Production Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the production team responsible for preparing products for fulfillment. This includes inbound receiving of bulk seed, operating seed packet packaging machines, managing seed packet production, and ensuring inventory is accurately prepared for downstream picking and shipping.

This role manages production workflows, ensures quality standards are maintained, and leads a team responsible for efficiently converting bulk seed into finished packet products ready for distribution.

The Production Manager plays a key role in maintaining operational efficiency, inventory accuracy, and product quality while collaborating closely with warehouse, inventory, and fulfillment teams.


NOTE: This role supports both the AM and PM production teams and is responsible for ensuring consistent operations, training, and communication across shifts. The AM shift operates from 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM and the PM shift from 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM, with a combined team of approximately 15 hourly production employees. The Production Manager will maintain regular overlap with both shifts to provide training, support team members, and ensure smooth handoffs and alignment between production activities.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Production Operations

  • Directs and coordinates seed production activities including seed packet packaging, labeling, and preparation for warehouse fulfillment
  • Oversees operation of seed packet packaging machines and ensures proper maintenance and safe usage
  • Plans and schedules production runs to meet demand from wholesale, retail, and eCommerce channels
  • Ensures production output aligns with fulfillment timelines and inventory requirements
  • Implements processes to improve production efficiency and reduce waste

Inventory & Inbound Management

  • Oversees inbound receiving of bulk seed inventory and ensures accurate tracking and storage
  • Maintains accurate inventory levels of bulk seed, packaging materials, and finished seed packets
  • Coordinates inventory movement from production to pick & ship areas
  • Supports inventory cycle counts and reconciliation of production-related inventory

Team Leadership

  • Manages, trains, and develops production team members
  • Assigns daily tasks and production priorities to meet operational goals
  • Ensures team members follow safety protocols and proper equipment procedures
  • Provides ongoing coaching, feedback, and performance evaluations

Quality & Process Management

  • Maintains high quality standards for seed packaging, labeling accuracy, and product presentation
  • Establishes and improves production processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures
  • Identifies operational bottlenecks and implements solutions to improve throughput

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Works closely with warehouse, purchasing, and inventory teams to coordinate production schedules
  • Communicates production capacity, constraints, and timelines to leadership
  • Supports operational planning during seasonal demand spikes

Operational Oversight

  • Monitors production metrics and efficiency
  • Ensures proper maintenance and repair scheduling for packaging equipment
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe production environment

Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in production, manufacturing, warehouse operations, or related field
  • 1+ year of management or supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience managing production workflows, packaging operations, or light manufacturing environments
  • Ability to manage priorities and schedules in a fast-paced operational setting
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control

Through previous background and experience, the candidate must demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of production processes, packaging workflows, or light manufacturing
  • Knowledge of inventory management and operational planning
  • Ability to train and manage hourly production staff
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with computer systems such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace
  • Ability to collaborate across operations teams
  • Must be a team player and align with Epic’s strong core values and beliefs.


COMPENSATION

This is an exempt, salaried role.  

The pay for this role starts at $65,000 with the opportunity to earn more based on experience.
