ABOUT THE COMPANY

Founded in 2013, Epic has become the most followed gardening brand and is the leading creator-led, content-to-commerce business in gardening. Millions of enthusiastic gardeners come to Epic for entertaining and informative growing content across video, blogs, podcasts, social platforms, and books. Through our online store, we offer highly curated, best-in-class gardening products designed to perform well for the gardener and stand the test of time. In December 2021, Epic closed a round of financing from The Chernin Group (TCG).  In November 2022, Epic Gardening completed the acquisition of Botanical Interests, a vegetable, herb, and flower packet seed company founded in 1995 and based in Broomfield, CO. The acquisition dramatically expands Epic's product offering and go-to-market channels with the addition of 800+ SKUs and a nationwide wholesale distribution channel. Today, we are a team of over 85 employees and contractors across the world.

About the Role

Epic Gardening is looking for a Web Developer to lead the technical execution and evolution of our digital experience. This role is ideal for someone who loves working across systems, cares deeply about user experience, and enjoys seeing their work go live and make a difference quickly. You'll serve as the go-to technical lead for our website and digital infrastructure—supporting everything from Shopify integrations to landing pages to on-call deployment for major product drops.

This isn’t a deeply full-stack or enterprise software role. Instead, we’re looking for a well-rounded and strategic builder who can see the big picture, operate autonomously, and roll up their sleeves to get things done fast. You’ll partner closely with our content, product, and ecommerce teams to shape and optimize the digital pathways that help millions of gardeners grow more confidently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and upkeep of Epic Gardening’s website and ecommerce platform (primarily Shopify-based).
  • Own the execution of new digital projects—including launches, seasonal campaigns, promotions, landing pages, etc.
  • Integrate and troubleshoot third-party tools, plug-ins, and APIs to support business needs.
  • Manage day-to-day site performance, accessibility, SEO, and responsive design standards.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for all web development work; participate in occasional on-call support during big launches or sales events.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with ecommerce, design, marketing, content, and operations to ensure a seamless digital experience.
  • Recommend improvements and iterate quickly based on analytics, user feedback, and business objectives.
  • Potential to grow into a lead role and hire/manage a junior developer as the team scales.

Who You Are

  • You have 5+ years of web development experience, ideally working in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • You’re fluent in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and comfortable working with Shopify (Liquid).
  • You have experience with modern CMS platforms, site optimization tools, and integration workflows.
  • You’re strategic but scrappy—you know how to balance speed and polish.
  • You enjoy working cross-functionally and communicating with both technical and non-technical collaborators.
  • You’re comfortable owning outcomes and solving problems independently.
  • You’re also comfortable explaining complex technical concepts at an executive level.
  • You’re based in the Nashville metro area and able to work from a shared coworking space 1–2 days per week, depending on business needs.
  • Bonus if you’ve worked in ecommerce or content-commerce businesses before.
  • Bonus if you have run CRO tests while focusing on improving user experience
