Non-Destructive Testing Tool Inspector, Level 1

Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role will be located at our Cincinnati, Ohio facility.


Role Overview

The NDI Technician - FPI Level I performs fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI/PT) activities on aerospace hardware in accordance with approved work instructions, applicable specifications, and Beehive Industries' NDT written practice. This role processes and prepares parts, performs required equipment and system checks, documents inspection results, and works under the guidance or supervision of qualified Level II or Level III personnel as required by NAS 410.


What You’ll Do...

  • Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection (FPI/PT) processing in accordance with approved work instructions, procedures, drawings, and applicable customer or industry requirements.
  • Prepare parts for inspection and complete required pre-cleaning, penetrant application, dwell, removal, developer application, inspection, and post-cleaning steps within approved process parameters.
  • Perform equipment standardization and required system performance checks using approved instructions; identify and escalate out-of-tolerance conditions.
  • Examine components under the required inspection conditions and accurately identify and document relevant, nonrelevant, and false indications.
  • Document inspection results, process records, traceability information, and required quality records accurately and completely.
  • When specifically authorized by Beehive's Responsible Level III and written practice, interpret and evaluate designated products or product forms for acceptance or rejection in accordance with approved work instructions; otherwise, refer evaluation decisions to Level II or Level III personnel.
  • Maintain FPI materials, equipment, work areas, and consumables in a condition that supports safe, compliant, and repeatable inspection results.
  • Follow chemical handling, PPE, UV-A exposure, environmental, EHS, quality, and foreign object debris (FOD) controls applicable to the inspection area.
  • Support internal, customer, regulatory, and special-process audits by maintaining accurate records and demonstrating adherence to approved processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Quality and manufacturing operations.

You have...

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade-school coursework in nondestructive testing, inspection, manufacturing, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • Must meet, or be capable of meeting, the formal training, examination, and vision requirements for Penetrant Testing Level I under NAS 410 Revision 6 and Beehive Industries' approved NDT written practice.

Experience

  • For PT/FPI Level I qualification, NAS 410 Revision 6 specifies a minimum of 16 hours of formal PT training and 130 hours of applicable experience; documented prior training and experience may be accepted only as permitted by Beehive's written practice and approved by the Responsible Level III or Examiner.
  • Hands-on experience in aerospace, precision manufacturing, inspection, or special processes is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to follow detailed written work instructions, process specifications, inspection plans, and acceptance criteria.
  • Working knowledge of fluorescent penetrant inspection principles, process controls, equipment, materials, and common discontinuity types.
  • Ability to perform accurate documentation and maintain inspection traceability in paper and electronic quality systems.
  • Strong attention to detail, disciplined process execution, and willingness to escalate abnormal conditions or unclear requirements.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Level II/III NDI personnel.
  • Ability to meet applicable near-vision and color-perception requirements and maintain qualification status in accordance with Beehive's written practice.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice to have...

  • Current or previous employer certification to NAS 410 or EN 4179 as PT/FPI Level I.
  • Experience inspecting aerospace castings, forgings, weldments, machined components, or additively manufactured hardware.
  • Experience working in an AS9100 and/or Nadcap-controlled special-process environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work for extended periods in a manufacturing and inspection environment, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, and using inspection equipment and hand tools.
  • Ability to safely handle parts and materials consistent with site lifting requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Regular use of required PPE and work around approved penetrant-process chemicals and UV-A inspection equipment; must follow applicable EHS controls and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work assigned shifts and overtime as business needs require; limited travel may be required for training or support at other Beehive locations
