Social Media Manager (Team Specific)

About the role

  • As a Social Media Manager, you are responsible for managing the social media presence of your assigned Bethel Athletics team. This includes coverage of competitions, weekly content, team updates, and off-season responsibilities.
  • Social Media Managers work directly with Athletic Communications and in collaboration with their assigned team's coaching staff to create and maintain a consistent, timely, and engaging social media presence.
  • Each Social Media Manager is responsible for ensuring that their assigned team's competitions are appropriately covered on social media. Coverage may include live updates, in-game content, final scores, graphics, photos, video highlights, and post-game content. The level of coverage will vary by sport and competition.
  • Social Media Managers are not expected to attend every away competition. When not physically present, they are responsible for obtaining the necessary information and content to provide appropriate digital coverage as the competition progresses.
  • Social Media Managers are expected to attend assigned home competitions and may attend away competitions when appropriate or desired.
  • Personal purchase of Canva Pro is not required, but is RECOMMENDED for Social Media, Photo, Video, and Design workers.


Qualifications

  • Must be a current Bethel University student
  • Strong interest in social media, athletics, communications, marketing, or content creation
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and respond in a timely manner during competitions
  • Familiarity with social media platforms, including Instagram and X/Twitter
  • Previous experience managing social media or creating digital content is preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Competition Coverage

Social Media Managers are responsible for ensuring their assigned team's social media is appropriately covered for every competition. Depending on the sport and competition, responsibilities may include:

Live Social Media Updates

  • Score updates
  • Important statistics and game information
  • Key moments and milestones
  • Final score and result
  • Other relevant in-game updates

Game-Day Content

  • Gameday graphics
  • Score update graphics
  • Final score graphics
  • Photos and/or video content
  • Post-game content
  • Other content appropriate for the assigned sport

Video Highlights

  • Capturing or obtaining video clips when available
  • Clipping and preparing video highlights for social media
  • Posting timely in-game or post-game highlights

Away Competition Coverage

  • Coordinate with coaching staff or other appropriate sources to obtain scores, statistics, photos, video, and other necessary information
  • Provide appropriate social media coverage even when not physically present at the competition

Weekly & Off-Season Responsibilities

  • Maintain a consistent social media presence for the assigned team outside of competition
  • Identify and share quality content throughout the week
  • Promote upcoming competitions, events, accomplishments, and team updates
  • Create and publish content provided by coaches, student-athletes, or the Athletics department
  • Help promote team achievements, awards, milestones, and other relevant news
  • Participate in content planning and other social media initiatives as assigned
  • Assist with off-season content and recruiting-related content when appropriate and directed

Light Graphic Design

  • Edit and update score update and final score graphics
  • Use Canva, Photoshop, Gipper, Affinity Photo, or other approved design tools
  • Make minor edits to templates and graphics provided by the Brand Manager
  • Assist with other basic graphic needs as assigned

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate regularly with the Brand Manager regarding upcoming competitions, content needs, and social media plans
  • Work collaboratively with assigned coaching staffs
  • Maintain timely communication during competitions
  • Follow Bethel Athletics brand, social media, and communication guidelines
  • Coordinate with other Athletics student workers when content requires photography, video, graphics, or other support
  • Ask questions and communicate proactively when information or content is needed

Expected Work Schedule

Nights, days, and weekends as needed.


**Compensation: Stipend-based compensation; amount varies based on assigned team and position responsibilities.
