Boom Supersonic

Special Projects Analyst (Early Career, Exceptional Talent)

Special Projects is Boom's team of universal problem-solvers. We parachute into whatever is most broken or most urgent, anywhere in the company, and we own the fix — not the recommendation. We're not here to write about the problem. We're here to solve it. You'll be handed an actual problem and held accountable for the outcome.

Here's what that looks like in practice. A critical function with multiple workstreams and no one holding the schedule together. Multiple sites in the running for the next facility, and no one's dived into numbers yet. A permit that's about to slip the whole project. At Boom, you'll own problems like these — early in your career, not a decade into it.

We hire a small number of exceptional early-career people and hand them real problems on day one. Most companies put new grads in a lane: a corner of a spreadsheet, a slice of someone else's analysis, a deck to reformat. You spend years supporting work someone else owns before you get near anything real. That's not this team.

This job isn't for everyone. You're the right person if:

  • You've done something extraordinary early — started something real, led a team that actually delivered, or did work in a project or internship that most people don't touch for years.
  • You want ownership, not guidance.
  • You get more energized when a problem gets harder, not less.
  • You're uncomfortable waiting for someone else to find the answer.
  • The shop floor sounds more interesting to you than a conference room.

What you'll do:

  • Own a real problem end to end — or a meaningful piece of one. Not a side project that goes in a drawer when it's done.
  • Support investor diligence — pull together the operational and financial story and help answer the questions that decide a raise.
  • Lead the logistics of a complex move — a test cell, a massive machine, or an entire lab relocated to a new site with minimal downtime.
  • Build business processes that last — the intake, the reporting cadence, the approval flow a team keeps using long after you've moved on.
  • Step in on a critical project that's slipping and drive it back on track — figure out what's actually blocking it, who owns what, and what happens next.
  • Run the analysis behind a real decision — a site-selection call, a make-vs-buy, a cost breakdown nobody's gotten to yet.
  • Get to ground truth. Walk the floor, talk to people, watch the process run, and dig into the raw data yourself.
  • Turn the answer into action — put the fix in place before you move on to the next problem.

You probably have:

  • A degree in engineering or a quantitative or finance field.
  • A strong academic record from a strong program — though we care more about what you've delivered than your GPA.
  • Evidence you've done hard things: a company you started, a competition team you led, research you drove, a job that stretched you well past your title.
  • Analytical horsepower — you're fast in a spreadsheet and can build a model from scratch.
  • A track record of finishing hard things, inside school and outside of it.

You will thrive here if:

  • You'd rather be on the floor solving the problem than in a room talking about it.
  • Ownership energizes you, and ambiguity doesn't scare you.
  • You ask for forgiveness, not permission.
  • When you hit a wall, your first move is to go find out why.

People who want to start their career doing work that actually matters should apply.
