Backed by over CAD $80 million in funding from leading global strategic and financial investors - such as Toyota Ventures, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Eni, Evok Innovations, and BDC - e-Zinc has garnered international recognition for its proprietary technology and visionary roadmap. Highlights include:

  • $1M Grand Prize winner of the Impact Canada Charging the Future Challenge
  • Awarded a $1.6M grant from Breakthrough Energy Solutions Canada
  • Secured over $12M in funding across three projects from Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC)
  • Recipient of a USD $1.3M grant from the California Energy Commission

As e-Zinc moves toward commercialization, e-Zinc is expanding its team to bring our transformative technology to market and support the future of renewable energy.

Opportunity

e-Zinc is looking for a Senior Engineer, Electrical & Power Systems to help design, integrate, and validate the electrical systems that enable our long-duration energy storage technology. This is a hands-on opportunity to work at the intersection of power systems, power conversion, controls, and energy storage and contribute directly to the development and deployment of e-Zinc’s technology. You will take ownership of electrical system design and integration across the product lifecycle—from system architecture, modeling and equipment selection through detailed engineering, prototype testing, commissioning, and field deployment. Working closely with the Battery Energy Storage System team, you will help translate system requirements into safe, reliable, and scalable electrical solutions.

This role is well suited to an engineer who enjoys solving complex power systems challenges, working directly with hardware and suppliers, and seeing their designs move from the engineering bench to real-world energy storage projects.

Position Scope and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, integration, testing, and certification of the Power Conversion System (PCS) and associated electrical systems for e-Zinc energy storage projects.
  • Develop and review electrical system architectures, specifications, single-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, conductor and cable schedules, grounding systems, and construction documentation for greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Sizing and selection of inverters, DC converters, protection systems, and other PCS components to control the power flow through e-Zinc's proprietary BESS.
  • Collaborate with Software and Controls to integrate control logic and communications between e-Zinc’s Battery Management System (BMS) and power conversion components
  • Prepare or support electrical studies, including system impact, grounding, protection and coordination, arc flash, harmonics, and related analyses.
  • Support supplier engagement, RFQs, purchase orders, and project cost estimates.
  • Prepare technical content and electrical inputs for customer proposals and project development activities.
  • Participate in prototype builds, system qualification testing, installation, commissioning, and field deployment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and system-level issues and collaborate across engineering disciplines to identify and implement practical solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability, safety, cost, and manufacturability through design and process improvements.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise to the engineering team and support junior engineers where applicable.
  • Communicate project risks, technical issues, and recommendations to technical leadership and broader project team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, preferably with a focus on Power Systems, Power Electronics, or a related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience in power systems, power conversion, energy storage, renewables, industrial systems, or a related field.
  • Experienced in SolidWorks and PDM.
  • Experience designing, integrating, testing, or commissioning power conversion systems, inverters, or industrial electrical systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical system design, power distribution, protection, grounding, and electrical safety.
  • Experience developing and reviewing single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, layouts, and detailed engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Electrical Code (NEC) , ESA requirements, and applicable CSA standards.
  • Experience with electrical engineering software and tools used for system design, analysis, and documentation.
  • Self-directed, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, evolving environment.
