About the role
We are seeking a Principal Hydrogeologist / Geochemist to join our Australian operations, specifically our team in Queensland. This is a senior technical and leadership role suited to an experienced professional (typically 15+ years’ experience) who is motivated to take ownership of complex projects, lead multidisciplinary teams and support the continued growth of EHS Support in Queensland. 

The role will focus primarily on projects within the oil and gas, contaminated sites and groundwater, and mining sectors, while also supporting major industrial and infrastructure clients across Queensland and interstate. You will work closely with other Principals, senior leadership and our broader national team to deliver technically robust, pragmatic and defensible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities 

As a Principal Hydrogeologist / Geochemist, your responsibilities will include: 

Technical Leadership 

  • Providing senior technical oversight and direction on complex groundwater, geochemical and contaminated site projects. 
  • Leading development of conceptual site models, fate and transport assessments, and risk-based evaluations. 
  • Designing and reviewing groundwater monitoring programs, aquifer tests, numerical models and geochemical investigations. 
  • Providing expert input into remediation strategies, mine water management, waste characterisation and closure planning. 
  • Reviewing and authoring high-quality technical reports suitable for regulators, auditors, clients and legal proceedings. 

Project Delivery & Management 

  • Acting as Project Director / Senior Project Manager on major assignments, with responsibility for scope, programme, budget and technical quality. 
  • Managing multidisciplinary project teams, including mentoring and technical guidance of junior and midlevel staff. 
  • Engaging with regulators, clients and stakeholders, providing clear, confident and defensible technical advice. 
  • Business Development & Strategy 
  • Supporting growth of the Queensland groundwater and geochemistry capability through business development and client relationships. 
  • Identifying new opportunities with existing clients and contributing to proposal preparation and strategic pursuits. 
  • Working with national service line leaders to align Queensland projects with broader EHS Support capabilities. 

About You 
To be successful in this role, you will typically have: 

  • A tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Science or Engineering, with a postgraduate qualification highly regarded. 
  • 12+ years’ relevant consulting or industry experience, including a strong background in groundwater, geochemistry, contaminated sites and/or mine water projects. 
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex projects and providing senior technical oversight. 
  • Strong knowledge of Queensland and Australian environmental regulations and approval processes. 
  • Proven ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to clients, regulators and project teams. 
  • A pragmatic, solutions focused mindset aligned with EHS Support’s values and culture.
