About this role
ESS Metron is looking for a Fabrication Supervisor responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the fabrication shop, including sheet metal, structural steel, and copper fabrication processes. This role coordinates and directs the activities of approximately 30 employees, ensuring that production goals are met safely, efficiently, on time, and within quality standards. The Fabrication Supervisor is a hands-on leader who drives productivity, maintains high workmanship standards, and supports continuous improvement initiatives. This position requires a high-energy, self-motivated, and detail-oriented individual with a strong sense of urgency and accountability.


What You'll Be Doing

Production & Operations

  • Analyze work orders, bills of materials, blueprints, and production schedules to determine materials, processes, and job sequencing.
  • Assign daily tasks and coordinate workflows across fabrication processes such as laser cutting, metal punch, copper punch, press brake, welding, and painting.
  • Ensure machines are properly set up, maintained, and operating efficiently; coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Track labor hours and production output; hold team members accountable to time and performance expectations.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Directly supervise approximately 30 fabrication employees, including welders, machine operators, press brake operators, expeditors, and painters.
  • Train and mentor employees on equipment, processes, safety procedures, and quality expectations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and recommend disciplinary actions or rewards as needed.
  • Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive and productive work environment.
  • Coordinate with lead personnel to ensure effective communication and workflow across all fabrication areas.

Safety & Quality Compliance

  • Enforce all company safety policies and OSHA requirements, including proper use of PPE.
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture within the shop.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety training, inspections, and production quality.

Process Improvement & Efficiency

  • Recommend and implement improvements to production methods, equipment usage, and workflow.
  • Assist with plant layout, material flow, and process optimization to improve efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, improve quality, and increase productivity.

Materials & Equipment Management

  • Manage shop inventory levels to support production without delays.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and care of fabrication equipment to maximize lifespan and performance.

Administrative & Cross-Functional Support

  • Maintain accurate production logs, time records, and reporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to ensure alignment on specifications, timelines, and deliverables.

What you'll have

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or trade school training preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fabrication, welding, or manufacturing, with prior supervisory experience required.
  • Strong knowledge of sheet metal, structural steel, and copper fabrication processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and weld symbols.
  • Familiarity with fabrication equipment such as metal punch, lasers, press brakes, and welding systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address production challenges in real time.
  • Clear communicator in English, both written and verbal, across employees, management, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to perform calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, ratios, and percentages.

Physical requirements and work environment

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach, and communicate.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and up to 100 pounds with team lifting occasionally.
  • Vision requirements include close, color, peripheral, and depth perception, with the ability to adjust focus.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions.
  • Requires the ability to work safely and effectively in a fast-paced shop environment.

Safety Requirements

  • PPE & Compliance: Strictly adhere to all site safety protocols and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times (e.g., safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots).
  • Hazard Awareness: Proactively identify, report, and mitigate potential workplace hazards or unsafe conditions.
  • Standards: Maintain compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety training.
  • Organization: Keep all work areas clean and free of obstructions to prevent workplace accidents.
