Careers at Fox Marble

IT & Solutions Technologist

Fox Marble has been one of the Bay Area’s premier stone fabrication and installation companies for more than 40 years. From custom kitchen slabs to large-scale commercial projects, our team of expert fabricators, installers, and craftsmen transforms natural stone and tile into spaces that last for generations.

Today, Fox Marble is entering an exciting new chapter. We’ve joined forces with Fireclay Tile, a fast-growing, design-driven manufacturer known for handcrafted tile and a modern digital platform that makes specifying and purchasing surfaces easier than ever. Together, we’re building something unique: a vertically integrated surfaces company that combines handcrafted materials, precision fabrication, and expert installation — all under one roof.

Our Richmond facility is home to a team of highly skilled craftsmen who take pride in doing things the right way, and our field team is professional, experienced, and focused on delivering exceptional value. If you enjoy working with great people, building beautiful things, and being part of a company that values craftsmanship, innovation, and integrity, you’ll fit right in.

About the Role

Are you a recent IT/CS graduate, bootcamp alum, or self-taught builder who wants to bypass the boring, multi-year "help desk sentence" and actually start building solutions? We are creating a brand-new position designed to be the ultimate launchpad for an ambitious, early-career technologist. The pay range for this position is $75,000 - $90,000, depending on experience.

This role is exactly half frontline IT support and half agile software creation. If you love troubleshooting real hardware on a physical shop floor, but you are also obsessed with using modern AI coding tools to build internal tools that change how a business runs, this role was built for you.

Instead of sitting behind a siloed ticketing system all day, you will work directly with our operations and executive teams. You'll play a hands-on role in digital transformation, supporting both Fireclay and Fox Marble (our high-end marble fabrication business). We don't expect you to have a decade of corporate desk experience—we expect you to be a fast learner who leverages modern tech to build fast.

The 50/50 Split: How You’ll Spend Your Week

  • 50% Frontline IT & Factory Support (The "Hard Hat" Half): You are the go-to technical resource for the people making and shipping our product on the factory floor. You keep workstations, networks, shop tablets, and printer connectivity running smoothly. You don't mind dust, noise, or hands-on troubleshooting.
  • 50% AI-Driven Software & Integrations (The "Builder" Half): You partner with operations leaders to replace messy spreadsheets with smart, automated tools. Using modern AI tools (Cursor, Claude Code, Copilot), you build internal dashboards, connect SaaS APIs, and write code to optimize the business.

The Team You’ll Work With

As our Early-Career Technologist, you will be an integral part of our talented Operations and Technology team, reporting directly to the IT/Operations Manager. You will bridge the gap between traditional IT support, SaaS systems, and industrial automation.

Meet your Mentor & Hiring Manager, Marshall McKerchie!

Marshall joined Fireclay Tile in 2024 to spearhead digital transformation and manufacturing excellence. His team supports every corner of the organization, ensuring our digital tools work as hard as our makers do. By putting technology at the heart of our operations, we’re streamlining workflows and creating a more seamless, efficient experience for our entire team.

A Day in the Life: Two Distinct Realities

The IT & Operations Support Half (50%)

  • Frontline Technical Resource: Be the person someone walks up to and asks, "My label printer is doing the thing again—can you help?" Triage and resolve day-to-day issues for workstations, barcode scanners, A/V, and shop-floor kiosks.
  • SaaS Stack Administration: Manage user onboarding/offboarding, account provisioning, MFA, and access reviews across our SaaS stack (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Slack, Salesforce).
  • Industrial Awareness: Help support CNC machines, Waterjets, and shop-floor hardware from a networking and connectivity perspective.
  • Multi-Site Maintenance: Manage inventory of hardware, peripherals, and licenses. Travel to our Aromas, CA factory 1–2 times per month to support the team there in person. Document runbooks and FAQs so the next problem solves itself.

The AI-Driven Software Projects Half (50%)

  • AI-First Software Development: Take ownership of small-to-medium internal software projects from intake through deployment—the kind that used to take six months, but which a sharp technologist can now deliver in days using modern AI coding tools.
  • Workflow Automation: Shadow operations leaders to understand current-state workflows and translate manual, spreadsheet-heavy processes into clean internal tools.
  • System Integrations: Build and maintain small automations and data flows to close the gap between software and floor operations.

What You’ll Learn In Your First 12–18 Months

This role is an explicit investment in your career. We are going to train you in:

  • Modern, AI-assisted software development workflows and rapid application prototyping (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.).
  • Real-world IT operations and network infrastructure at a scaling, multi-site manufacturing company.
  • How to scope, ship, and support your own code in a live business environment.

What We Look For in You

We’re looking for a resourcefully minded generalist who enjoys learning fast, solving ambiguous problems, and working close to the business.

Qualifications for the IT Half (50%)

  • IT Fundamentals: Working knowledge of Windows and macOS, hardware troubleshooting, and basic networking concepts (DHCP, DNS, Wi-Fi troubleshooting). Prior campus help desk, lab assistant, or tech support experience is highly valued!
  • Environment & Logistics: Comfortable working in a live manufacturing environment (dust, noise, heavy machinery).
  • Physical & Travel: Ability to lift and move standard IT equipment (monitors, PCs, printers). Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to Aromas, CA 1–2 times per month (mileage reimbursed). Authorized to work in the U.S.

Qualifications for the Software Half (50%)

  • Programming Aptitude: Foundational programming experience in any modern language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar) via coursework, coding bootcamps, or personal side projects. You don't need to be a senior engineer—you just need to understand coding logic and love using AI tools to build things.
  • AI-Forward Curiosity: Active exposure to or high excitement for AI coding assistants (Claude, Cursor, Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate development.
  • Strong Communicator: Ability to explain a technical issue to a production lead on the floor and a software design to an executive manager.

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (equivalent practical, self-taught experience is just as welcome!).
  • Side projects or coursework involving SQL, REST APIs, or basic web development.
  • Experience supporting users in a fast-paced retail, warehouse, manufacturing, or field environment.

Schedule & Culture

  • Schedule: Onsite at our Richmond, CA factory 3 days per week; remaining days remote or as-needed onsite. 1–2 trips per month to our Aromas, CA factory.
  • Culture: Our culture thrives on professional development, ongoing training, and genuine opportunities for growth within the organization. We are makers supporting dreamers—come build the future of manufacturing technology with us!
