Job Summary

The Dog Trainer is committed to science-based positive reinforcement training, which creates a dog who wants to work with you and enjoys learning. As skilled Dog Trainers we are committed to our methodology and make a connection with each of their clients both two and four-legged. These relationships are built on trust and support using humane relationship-based techniques. JM Pet Resort & Veterinary Clinic Dog Trainers should be comfortable with offering private sessions, behavior evaluations and teaching in a group setting.  Our trainers teach puppies through advanced classes and handle all behavior issues.

Essential Responsibilities

•      Leads multi-week group and private classes for puppies and adult dogs

•      Provides in-home private lessons for clients requiring one-on-one training and create individualized training plans

•      Combines positive reinforcement command, behavior, socialization and wellness into their classes

•      Prepares certificates of graduation and surveys to distribute upon completion of each group session

•      Creates and maintains a calendar of all training classes, at least 3 months in advance

•      Follows safe practices and procedures when introducing dogs

•      Conducts customer consultations and satisfaction

•      Positively interacts with pet parent’s in-person, via email, text and phone

•      Assist with evacuation of all animals if an emergency occurs

Qualifications

•      2+ years of professional dog training experience required

•      Strong dog handling skills using only positive reinforcement techniques 

•      Strong understanding of canine body language

•      Outstanding interpersonal communication skills

•      Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness

Education

• High School Diploma required

Professional Dog Training Experience preferred

• Certification preferred

Computer Skills

• Must be able to learn and efficiently use company software
• Must be able to learn new technology in accordance with business needs

Physical Demands

• Position requires a person to be both indoors and outdoors regardless of the weather
• Majority of the day is spent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, up to 100 pounds with assist
• Must be comfortable working with a wide variety of animals including small and large dogs
• Must be able to work around pet hair and dander
• Must be able to climb 2 flights of stairs multiple times per day

• Potential exposure to dog and cat bites
• Potential exposure to contagious disease or infection
• Exposure to contaminants
• Exposure to extreme weather (i.e. heat and cold)
• Must work around pet hair and dander
