General Description:
The Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries is a privately funded 501(c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Our designated purpose is religious, and we are a Christ-centered ministry which is dedicated to sharing the Gospel and helping the homeless and impoverished. We consider every position to be essential in the fulfillment of our ministry and statement of purpose. As such, each employee must have a relationship with Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
Essential Functions
- As a member of staff, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
- Build meaningful, Christ-centered relationships with guests residing in the Men's Shelter.
- Recruit and encourage Emergency Services guests to apply for and engage in the Next Steps Program.
- Maintain an active caseload of Next Steps participants and meet regularly with assigned guests to establish, monitor, and achieve individualized goals.
- Complete and/or oversee all required case management intakes, assessments, and documentation for assigned guests.
- Develop individualized pathways that address each guest's unique needs and goals in areas including, but not limited to:
- Physical and mental health
- Assist guests in obtaining necessary resources and services, including identification documents, medical care, housing assistance, educational opportunities, employment support, legal advocacy, and biblical counseling.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external community partners to ensure guests receive comprehensive support and are progressing toward long-term stability and life transformation.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation of guest progress, interventions, goals, and outcomes.
- Provide encouragement, accountability, and corrective feedback when guests are not progressing toward their individualized goals and commitments.
- Develop, review, and update written protocols and procedures related to case management and support services as needed.
- Participate in all required organizational, shelter, and departmental meetings, trainings, and ministry activities.
- Model a Christ-centered lifestyle that demonstrates a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ and dependence upon the Holy Spirit.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Men's Shelter Manager.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the Next Steps living environment, ensuring that the facility operates in a manner that promotes personal responsibility, accountability, stewardship, and life transformation. This includes conducting room inspections, monitoring completion of assigned chores, addressing facility-related concerns, and reinforcing program expectations and standards.

- Working knowledge of community resources, social services, mental health, substance use recovery, and housing systems preferred.

Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Ministry, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in Gospel rescue mission ministry, homelessness services, social services, mental health, substance use recovery, or a related helping profession preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of leadership, case management, ministry, or supervisory experience preferred.
- Biblical counseling certification (IABC or equivalent) preferred; however, required training and certification must be completed after hire if not already obtained.
