Kin Health

Senior Engineer

About Kin

Healthcare is still a black box for most Americans. Kin turns any medical visit into momentum and becomes the default patient AI layer that works in any exam room today: patient-controlled, privacy-forward, and designed to make care feel less confusing and more doable in the moments that count.

We are a physician-led team of repeat entrepreneurs with multiple successful exits, supported by world-class capital and strategic partners (including the former co-CEOs of GoodRx). We’re hiring a Senior Engineer to help us build a product that patients trust in the moments that matter and define the next generational consumer healthcare business.

Why this role matters

The best technology in the world doesn't matter if it breaks when a caregiver needs it most, if the recording fails in a hospital basement with no signal, or if a patient can't trust that their data is safe. You're the person who makes sure that doesn't happen.

You'll own the technical foundation that everything else at Kin is built on. You'll report directly to our CTO, Kyle Alwyn, and work alongside the founding team.

What you will be building at Kin

  • You'll set the technical direction. Make the big architectural calls across our ecosystem and live with the consequences. The kind of decisions that are easy to get wrong early and expensive to fix later. You'll make them with conviction because you've made them before.
  • You'll solve the problems no one's solved yet. Offline-first healthcare, real-time clinical audio transcription, private AI compute, and graphs all the way down. In environments where nothing works the way it should. There's no playbook for what we're building. You'll write it.
  • You'll define how we build, not just what we ship. We don't think AI is a feature we ship. It's how we build. You'll design the workflows, tooling, and automation that let a team of four operate like a team of forty. This is as core to the role as anything you'll put in production.
  • You'll ship it with us. Work directly with co-founders and clinicians across the full stack, from API design to mobile recording flows to the interfaces patients and caregivers actually use. You'll feel the weight of that and love it.

What we're looking for

We're building for people navigating the scariest moments of their lives. That shapes everything about who we hire, how we build, and what we ship.

  • You've seen what good looks like. You've shipped software people depend on in messy, unpredictable environments and you came out the other side with opinions. About failure modes, about schema design, about what holds up at scale and what quietly falls apart. Healthcare data raises the bar on all of it, not just compliance, but the deeper constraints that come from earning and keeping patient trust.
  • The tools change. You don't. We care about how you think through problems, not which frameworks you've memorized. Our stack is Hono, React Native/Expo, React, and PostgreSQL, all TypeScript end to end. You'll pick up the specifics. What stays constant is the judgment, knowing which tradeoff to make when there are six reasonable options and real urgency behind all of them.
  • You've already rewired how you build. You use LLMs and agentic tools in your actual day to day, not as experiments. You have real opinions about where they help and where they get in the way. You're excited to help a small team define what AI-assisted development looks like when it's not a buzzword but a genuine advantage.
  • Everyone gets better when you show up. You leave behind clear patterns that make the next decision easier. You write things down. You make complex tradeoffs feel obvious in retrospect. The best engineers you've worked with did this for you, and now you do it for others.

How we work

1. Patient-First Obsession

The North Star. When in doubt, ask whose interests this serves. We build for the person at the end of the care chain, not for the roadmap, not for the demo, not for the investor. When patient outcomes and internal convenience conflict, patient outcomes win. Every time.

2. No Silos, No Heroes

Empowerment over Dependency. We operate with radical transparency and assume positive intent, empowering each other to take ownership and challenge ideas rather than people.

3. Magic in Simplicity

Earn Complexity. Simple until it has to be otherwise. We ship to learn, cut scope to move, and resist the urge to architect for problems we don't have yet. Complexity is a cost. We only pay it when the return is clear.

4. Sustainable Intensity

Energy over Hours.

Energy is the asset, not hours. We bring full force when it matters and protect recovery because burnout doesn't serve patients. Intensity is a tool we choose.
