Senior Mechanical / Manufacturing Engineer

About Kinetic Custom Trailers

At KINETIC, we don’t just build trailers, we engineer custom solutions that push the boundaries of design, functionality, and quality. As a leader in the custom trailer manufacturing industry, we take pride in creating smart, efficient designs that meet the unique needs of every client, no matter how complex or specialized.

Backed by nearly a decade of proven success at our long-standing Canadian headquarters, we’ve brought that momentum to Waco—opening fresh opportunities for skilled, driven people to grow with us. Whether you’re on the shop floor, behind a CAD screen, or working with customers, you’ll be part of a company that values excellence, adaptability, and forward-thinking. This is a key growth role. We are looking for an experienced engineer who can help us scale without losing the practical, hands-on, high-accountability culture that has made Kinetic successful.

Application Requirement - Cover Letter

Please include a short project summary with 2–3 examples of improvements you personally owned and implemented.

For each example, please describe:

  • The company or facility size
  • Your direct responsibility
  • The process, fixture, design, or system you improved
  • Who you worked with to implement it
  • The measurable or practical outcome, such as throughput, quality, cost, safety, rework reduction, lead time, or production consistency

Applications that only describe academic projects, theoretical work, or team participation without clear personal ownership may not be reviewed.

Who You Are

You are an experienced mechanical, manufacturing, process, or product-focused engineer with strong manufacturing judgment. You know how to bridge design intent and production reality.

You are comfortable standing beside welders, fabricators, assemblers, brake operators, buyers, supervisors, and managers to solve problems and improve the system. You understand that process improvement only matters when it is adopted on the shop floor and produces better quality, better flow, better safety, or better throughput.

You can create structure where structure is missing. You can help build scalable processes without turning a practical manufacturing business into a bureaucratic one.

The Role

This is a senior hands-on engineering role for someone who can connect product design, manufacturing process, production flow, fixtures, documentation, and continuous improvement.

The right person has experience in a growing manufacturing environment where engineering work directly affects production outcomes. You will help improve how products are designed, documented, built, and scaled while supporting both current production and future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with design engineering and production to improve manufacturability, quality, cost, and build efficiency.
  • Review designs for fabrication risks, fit-up issues, weld access, bend strategy, tolerance concerns, assembly sequence, and material flow.
  • Develop and improve manufacturing processes, routings, work instructions, inspection points, and production standards.
  • Design or support jigs, fixtures, shop aids, and tooling that improve repeatability and reduce rework.
  • Support steel fabrication, forming, welding, machining, mechanical assembly, and related production processes.
  • Help troubleshoot production issues and drive practical corrective actions.
  • Support engineering changes and help ensure changes are implemented effectively on the shop floor.
  • Improve documentation and reduce reliance on tribal knowledge.
  • Support layout, workflow, tooling, material handling, and production scale-up as the Waco operation grows.
  • Mentor and support less experienced designers, technologists, and production-support personnel.

What We Are Looking For

  • 7+ years of full-time, post-graduation engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related Engineering degree, Engineering Technology degree, or equivalent practical engineering background.
  • Direct experience in steel fabrication, weldments, heavy equipment, trailers, transportation equipment, off-highway equipment, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, oilfield equipment, or similar manufactured products.
  • Proven experience personally implementing manufacturing improvements, fixtures, process changes, production documentation, or design-for-manufacturing improvements.
  • Experience working in a small-to-mid-sized manufacturing company, ideally under approximately 500 employees, where you personally owned broad responsibilities.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, welding, forming, machining, mechanical assembly, and production flow.
  • Ability to work effectively with shop-floor personnel, supervisors, engineering, purchasing, quality, and senior leadership.
  • Strong practical judgment, clear communication, and the ability to move improvements from concept to implementation.
  • Comfortable working on-site and spending regular time in production areas.

Academic projects, capstone projects, internships, co-ops, personal builds, or school-based design work do not count toward the required years of full-time industry experience.

What a Career at Kinetic Offers You

  • Competitive Compensation: $110,000 – $125,000+ annually, commensurate with experience and expertise.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Excellent health, dental, and vision plans.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunities for continuous learning, training, and career advancement.
  • Collaborative Culture: Work within an innovative, supportive, and dynamic team dedicated to excellence.

Work Schedule

  • Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
  • Schedule: Flexible with regular business hours typically 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.

To Apply: Please submit your resume, cover letter, and design portfolio through our website at Kinetic – Careers. We appreciate all applications, but only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
