MNL is a full-service ecological restoration company dedicated to Healing the Earth. Our services include native seed and plant production, shoreline and wetland restoration, prescribed burns, conservation grazing, vegetation management, and ecological consulting. We also support solar and infrastructure projects with pollinator-friendly practices and land stewardship expertise.


Our Seed Production Team grows, harvests, cleans, and prepares high-quality native seed from more than 100 species of plants used in restoration projects throughout the Midwest. The work combines outdoor field production with indoor seed processing and requires team members who are willing to work hard, adapt to changing seasonal priorities, and contribute wherever needed.


The Opportunity

We're hiring a Native Seed Farm Technician to support native seed production operations at our Lonsdale, MN farm. This is a hands-on role focused on field work, harvesting, weed management, seed processing, and general farm production activities.


Depending on the season, you may spend your day hand-pulling weeds, transplanting crops, harvesting seed, moving harvested material, processing seed, assisting with equipment operations, or helping maintain our production facilities. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, working outdoors, and being part of a team that takes pride in producing a quality product.


What You Will Do

  • Support field weed control operations, through hand pulling, chemical spot treating, weed whipping, and other vegetation management activities.
  • Assist with both manual (hand) and mechanical (combine, tractor, etc.) harvest operations, including handling harvested material and supporting equipment operations during harvest.
  • Help transplant and establish native seed production crops using both hand labor and transplanting equipment.
  • Participate in seed processing and cleaning activities, operating a variety of machines used to prepare seed for sale or internal use.
  • Move harvested materials between wagons, storage containers, and processing equipment using pitchforks, shovels, and other hand tools.
  • Assist with equipment operation during planting, maintenance, and harvest activities, and operate equipment independently when trained and authorized.
  • Support facility upkeep, shop organization, and general maintenance projects.
  • Work closely with teammates and supervisors to safely complete work and meet production goals.


What You Will Need To Be Successful

  • Previous experience working on a farm, nursery, landscaping crew, construction crew, grounds grew, or similar outdoor labor environment preferred.
  • Comfortable performing physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Familiarity with tractors, combines, mowers, or other agricultural equipment is preferred.
  • Willingness to learn seed production practices, equipment operations, and native plant identification.
  • Ability to follow directions, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with a team.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to contribute wherever needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset for identifying and solving problems.
  • Willingness to obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License within 3 months of hire (with assistance from MNL).
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments including exposure to dust, noise, and outdoor weather conditions while using proper PPE.
