OS National

AI Engineer - Escrow

About Opendoor

At Opendoor our mission is to tilt the world in favor of homeowners and those who aim to become one. Homeownership matters. It's how people build wealth, stability, and community. It's how families put down roots, how neighborhoods strengthen, how the future gets built. We're building the modern system of homeownership giving people the freedom to buy and sell on their own terms. We’ve built an end-to-end online experience that has already helped thousands of people and we’re just getting started.

About the role

At OS National, Opendoor’s title and escrow company, we’re rethinking how homes close with AI. We’re looking for a curious, adaptable builder and operator who wants to learn the closing process, work directly on transactions, and help make the work simpler, faster, and more reliable.

You’ll embed with our escrow team in Phoenix, learn and perform escrow duties, and work alongside Opendoor transaction coordinators, product managers, and engineers. You’ll use AI-powered tools, identify opportunities for improvement, and help turn those opportunities into better workflows—whether by building automation yourself or partnering with engineering.

You could come from engineering, operations, data, or another hands-on background. You don’t need prior escrow experience or to write production code every day. We’ll provide training in the business. You should bring practical curiosity about AI, sound judgment, and a willingness to learn by doing.

What you'll do

  • Learn the title and escrow process and take on transaction responsibilities with training and support from experienced teammates.
  • Coordinate with escrow teams, transaction coordinators, and other parties to keep documents, information, and next steps moving toward closing.
  • Use AI-powered tools in your daily work and help identify where manual steps can be simplified or eliminated.
  • Investigate workflow problems and tool limitations, explaining what happened, what should have happened, and how the issue affects the transaction.
  • Partner with product and engineering to test improvements, communicate trade-offs, and provide actionable feedback.
  • Build or modify AI workflows and automation where your skills and the problem call for it, or work with engineers to deliver the solution.
  • Check AI outputs, handle sensitive information carefully, and follow established review and approval processes.
  • Document what works, share what you learn, and help teammates adopt better ways of working.
  • Follow improvements through to everyday use and assess whether they reduce effort, errors, or delays.

What you'll need

  • A track record of learning unfamiliar tools or processes and putting that knowledge to work.
  • Practical experience using AI to solve problems, with the ability to explain how you checked the results.
  • Willingness to perform hands-on escrow work while learning how the broader operation fits together.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines, dependencies, and follow-ups.
  • Clear communication with technical and nontechnical teammates, including the ability to describe a problem and ask useful questions.
  • Sound judgment about when to act independently, verify information, or ask for help.
  • Ownership and follow-through: you stay with a problem until it’s resolved and the improvement is useful to others.

Bonus points

  • Experience building AI workflows, internal tools, or automation.
  • Comfort with SQL, APIs, scripting, or AI coding assistants.
  • Experience translating operational needs into product feedback or technical requirements.
  • Familiarity with title, escrow, mortgage, payments, insurance, or other document-heavy, transaction-based work.
  • Experience testing AI outputs, troubleshooting integrations, or working with sensitive customer and financial information.
  • Examples of helping a team adopt a new tool or change an established process.
