What You'll Do

This is a limited-hours role by design — roughly 4–5 hours per week, consistently scheduled in the after-school window. It's built for people who have other daytime commitments (a full-time job, teaching, grad school, caregiving) and want steady, meaningful tutoring work in the late afternoon without a large weekly time commitment.

As a GROW Tutor at Paper, you'll deliver high-impact, relationship-based tutoring in small groups or one-on-one, supporting students in Math and/or ELA. You'll meet with the same students multiple times per week for 30–45 minute sessions across an 8–12 week program, helping them build confidence, critical thinking skills, and academic mastery.

This role is fully remote.

Is this Role Right for you?

This role is a great fit if you:

  • Have daytime work or commitments but want consistent part-time work in after-school hours. Note: this program will be held from 5:35 - 6:10pm ET, Monday through Friday.
  • Can commit to the same recurring schedule every week for the length of a program
  • Are looking for a small but steady weekly commitment (~4–5 hours/week) — not variable or high-volume hours

This role is likely not a fit if you're seeking 10+ hours per week, daytime sessions, or a flexible/on-demand schedule. Hours in this role will not be guaranteed beyond the program's set schedule, though tutors are encouraged to pick up sub shifts outside of their scheduled program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead live, video-based tutoring sessions (small groups of students) in Math during after-school hours (5:35 - 6:10pm ET)
  • Maintain the same recurring weekly schedule for the full duration of the program — consistency is the core of this role
  • Prepare for each session using provided lesson plans and materials
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Build rapport with students and encourage active participation
  • Adapt instruction to varying student abilities, learning styles, and needs
  • Administer ongoing informal assessments and adjust support accordingly
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality tutoring aligned with curriculum standards
  • Acknowledge and implement feedback from quality assurance observations
  • Collaborate with the team and communicate proactively via Slack
  • Tutor Math up to Grade 6

Qualifications

  • Reliable availability during after-school hours (mid-to-late afternoon, program local time), every scheduled day, for the full program
  • Ability to tutor Math for elementary students (Grades 3–6)
  • Strong verbal communication skills and comfort facilitating live virtual sessions
  • Proven ability to engage students and build rapport
  • Strong time management, organizational skills, and reliability
  • Adaptability to diverse student learning styles and needs
  • Tech readiness: stable internet, webcam, microphone, and distraction-free workspace
  • Willingness to receive feedback and engage in continuous improvement
  • Applicants must reside in one of the following states to be eligible: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in education or tutoring
  • Experience working with students in Grades 3 and above
  • Degree in a relevant field
  • Experience with technology-enabled or remote instruction
  • Ability to tutor at least one additional subject (math or ELA) for middle and high school students (Grades 6–12)

Schedule and Compensation

  • GROW tutoring: $23.50/hour
  • Training & Onboarding: $20.50/hour
  • Expected commitment: approximately 4–5 hours per week on a fixed, recurring after-school schedule
  • Hours are consistent but limited — this role is intentionally scoped as supplemental income, not a primary income source
