Certified Peer Recovery Specialist [Part-Time] [Baxter]

CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SPECIALIST (PRS)

Reports To: SUD Program Manager

Position(s) Supervised: None

FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt

Work Location: On-Site, Baxter

Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 1:30pm

Pay Range: $22 - 24 per hour


JOB SUMMARY:  

The Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) plays a key role in addressing clients’ feelings of stigma, social isolation, personal loss, and other mental health barriers by modeling wellness and demonstrating personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness throughout the recovery journey. The CPRS is responsible for providing peer recovery support services to clients on an individual basis.  These services include education, advocacy, mentoring through self-disclosure of personal recovery experiences, attending recovery and other support groups with clients, accompanying clients to appointments that support recovery, assistance accessing resources to obtain housing, employment, education, and advocacy services, and nonclinical recovery support to assist the transition from treatment into the recovery community.   


PRIMARY JOB DUTIES: 

  • Consult with primary counselor to determine if and what peer recovery support services are appropriate. 
  • Make appointments to meet with clients and schedule on electronic health record system, Procentive.  
  • Enter and maintain information regarding what services you will be assisting the client in accessing, including time and type of services in Procentive. 
  • Communicate with counselors on a weekly basis to discuss mutual clients and collaborate on how to best support them.  
  • Document the ongoing progress made towards accessing the services, outcome, and client response.  
  • Attend all weekly staff meetings to include daily Jump-starts, clinicals and treatment consultations with primary counselors. 
  • Transportation of clients as needed.  
  • Adhere to the 245G requirements and Partners Behavioral Healthcare policies and ensure that weekly client documentation is completed on time.  
  • Assist clients in creating a financial plan for housing and ensure this is communicated to the housing management. 
  • Maintain relationships with community resources to include food shelves, local RCO’s, appropriate non-profit organizations, etc. 
  • Always maintain and exemplify pro-social behaviors.  
  • Maintain logged supervision hours. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

  • Ability to de-escalate stressful situations.  
  • Thrive in a busy environment with a diverse, criminogenic client population.                               
  • Interpersonal communication, patience, and empathy skills.  
  • Good problem-solving and critical thinking skills.  
  • In-depth knowledge of industry best practices. 
  • Basic math, bookkeeping and accounting skills.  
  • Organization, time management and prioritization abilities.  
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of client information.  
  • Understanding of industry-specific policies, such as Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations for health care. 
  • Organized and capable of gathering data from multiple sources, many for more than one bill at a time.  
  • Utilize interpersonal skills to solve problems, answer questions and collaboratively produce mutually beneficial solutions. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • 18 years of age.   
  • Active PRS certification from the MN Certification Board.  
  • Have a minimum of one year in recovery from substance use disorder. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of implications of 245G.  
  • Successfully complete DHS (Department of Human Services) background study. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.  
  • Experience using Procentive software. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Work is primarily in an office or clinical setting, and in the community. 
  • Typical environment includes individual counseling rooms, group therapy rooms, and standard office settings. 
  • Physical demands include the ability to sit or stand for extended periods, facilitate group sessions, and occasionally lift or move materials up to 25 lbs. 
  • Requires use of office equipment, including computers, phones, and filing systems. 
  • Ability to observe client behavior, read and interpret documentation, and respond to verbal and non-verbal cues. 
  • Work may involve emotionally intense or unpredictable client interactions; ability to manage stress and respond calmly to crises is essential. 
  • Must follow all safety protocols to ensure personal, client, and staff safety. 

CONTINUED EDUCATION AND TRAINING: 

  • Maintain active PRS certification and renew every two years.
  • Complete and provide documentation of 30 hours to DHS of continuing education in areas of mental health recovery, mental health rehabilitative services, and peer support. 
  • Attend in-house training and required staff meetings.
