About the role

The Senior Hyperscale Data Center Solutions Engineer reports to the VP of Solutions Engineering and functions as a senior technical authority and trusted advisor to Prime's Hyperscale customer base. This role directs the evaluation, engineering design, and implementation of large, complex, build-to-suit data center technical solutions across construction-based programs, with primary emphasis on Hyperscale accounts.


The role carries lead responsibility for opportunities originating from RFPs/RFIs and direct client engagement, partnering closely with the EVP of Sales and collaborating cross-functionally with Engineering, Product Delivery, Construction, Operations, and Marketing to produce technically rigorous, accurate, and commercially compelling proposals. The ideal candidate brings substantive, hands-on experience engaging Hyperscale customers and a working command of their technical evaluation criteria, procurement processes, and organizational culture.


What you'll do

Technical Solutioning & Customer Engagement

▪     Serve as senior technical lead for Hyperscale customer engagements, engineering and specifying data center solutions aligned to customer technical requirements and commercial objectives.

▪     Lead cross-functional response teams in the technical evaluation and disposition of RFP/RFI requirements, ensuring engineering accuracy and completeness across all submissions.

▪     Act as principal technical advisor to Hyperscale clients, presenting Prime's solution architecture, delivery methodology, and capabilities in a manner consistent with Hyperscale technical evaluation and procurement culture.

▪     Interpret and present Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis outputs to clients, translating thermal and airflow modeling results into clear, decision-relevant technical narratives.

▪     Conduct client-facing Bluebeam markup sessions to review design documents, coordinate revisions, and drive technical alignment in real time.

▪     Explain on-site power generation architecture, capacity planning, and resiliency design to clients in support of technical due diligence.

Program & Delivery Support

▪     Support construction and implementation teams to ensure on-schedule delivery of customer contractual commitments.

▪     Monitor Total Facility Operations (TFO) project costs and schedules against contractual baselines, flagging variances proactively.

▪     Attend recurring development status reviews and issue weekly progress summaries to Sales leadership to maintain alignment on business objectives.

▪     Coordinate with Procurement to reconcile anticipated, required, and ordered Owner-Furnished/Contractor-Installed (OFCI) equipment, assessing impacts to active opportunities and site development timelines.

▪     Coordinate with Procurement to sequence OFCI equipment orders for just-in-time delivery aligned to project schedules.

▪     Obtain and process OFCI equipment submittals to support design specification and approval workflows on assigned projects.

Content, Knowledge Management & Enablement

▪     Develop technical content and thought leadership for sales presentations, industry conferences, publications, and digital platforms in partnership with the Marketing team.

▪     Maintain and continuously refine the internal library of RFP technical responses and specification documents used across the proposal lifecycle.

▪     Own PowerPoint deliverables specific to Solutions Engineering subject matter for internal and client-facing use.

▪     Maintain Salesforce records reflecting available capacity and footprint across existing company facilities.

▪     Maintain Salesforce records tracking potential development properties and acquisitions, including current status.

▪     Mentor junior Solutions Engineers on Hyperscale engagement methodology, technical solutioning, and proposal development practices.

Design & Sourcing Support

▪     Travel to company sites, customer facilities, and OEM manufacturing locations to maintain strong technical relationships with clients, contractors, and suppliers.

▪     Partner with the design team to evaluate category spend management opportunities, supply market and commodity trends, and applicable KPIs for designers, contractors, and professional service providers.

▪     Support development of RFP packages for TFO design and contracting services, and help structure competitive sourcing events that secure commercial value, mitigate risk, and lock in performance requirements protecting the company's interests.

▪     Maintain and continuously expand technical fluency in MEP systems, civil and structural engineering, architecture, and commissioning as applied to data center development.

▪     Maintain and continuously expand technical fluency in facility BMS/EPMS/DCIM platforms and security operational processes and policy.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

▪     Bachelor's degree (4-year) required in an engineering or science-related discipline — Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering preferred. Equivalent, relevant technical Military Service experience will also be considered.

▪     5+ years of overall experience in data center solution design or a related engineering discipline.

▪     Minimum of 2 years of direct, hands-on experience engaging Hyperscale customers is required.

Hyperscale-Specific Technical Expertise

▪     Demonstrated ability to interpret CFD analysis and articulate thermal/airflow modeling results to clients in clear, actionable terms.

▪     Demonstrated ability to lead client-facing Bluebeam sessions for real-time design review and markup.

▪     Working technical command of on-site power generation systems, sufficient to explain design intent and resiliency implications to clients.

▪     Strong working knowledge of Hyperscale customer operating models, including technical evaluation processes, decision-making structures, and organizational culture.

▪     Proven track record building and sustaining technical relationships specifically with Hyperscale clients.

▪     Ability to interpret and explain single-line diagrams (SLDs) to clients, articulating system topology and power flow with technical precision.

▪     Solid understanding of electrical distribution options within data center whitespace, including topology trade-offs, redundancy configurations, and capacity implications.

▪     Working knowledge of various industry cooling technologies (e.g., air-cooled, liquid-cooled, direct-to-chip, immersion) with the ability to explain comparative differences and trade-offs to clients.

General Technical & Professional Skills

▪     Strong technical grounding in data center design, construction, and implementation practices.

▪     Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for varied stakeholder audiences.

▪     High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams.

▪     Proficiency in AutoCAD/Visio/Bluebeam is a plus.

▪     Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional engineering, construction, and commercial teams, both in-person and remotely.

▪     Highly self-motivated, with strong organizational discipline and the ability to prioritize competing customer-facing and internal deliverables.

▪     Ability to travel as required (moderate travel expected).
