About the role:
Respondology is seeking a detail-driven Staff Accountant I to be the day-to-day engine of our books: bookkeeping, accounts receivable, payables entry, deposits, and expense and commissions reporting, with real room to grow as our finance function scales.
The ideal candidate has 1–2 years of hands-on accounting, bookkeeping, or AR/AP experience (or a recent accounting degree plus relevant internship experience), a solid grasp of accounting fundamentals, and a habit of getting the details right. You’re the kind of person who can’t leave a reconciliation unbalanced, and who starts looking for a better way to do a task the second time you do it. We’re looking for a motivated, organized self-starter who is eager to learn and grow with us.
This role works directly with our CFO and has real opportunity for growth as the first core accounting team member. You’ll be the go-to person for all things accounting across Respondology: working with Sales and Customer Success on invoicing and collections, helping teammates with expense reimbursements, entering vendor payments, and keeping the records and reports leadership relies on accurate and up to date. Your work on collections and client relationships will tie directly to our revenue goals.
What you’ll do:
- Manage day-to-day accounts receivable: applying payments, following up on outstanding balances, and building friendly, professional relationships with client billing contacts
- Manage customer invoicing, ensuring bills go out accurately and on time
- Enter vendor bills and payables, prepare payment runs for approval, and keep the AP inbox current
- Serve as the first point of contact for the shared accounting inbox, responding to internal and external questions quickly and accurately
- Record and deposit incoming checks and match deposits to the bank
- Prepare monthly bank, credit card, and expense reimbursement reconciliations, with review and support from CFO.
- Enter and review employee expense submissions, including for our CEO, making sure they’re coded correctly and follow our expense policy
- Prepare monthly commissions reports and recurring AP and AR reports for leadership
- Keep clean, organized documentation and support month-end tasks as assigned
- Help streamline and automate routine work, from cleaner data entry to cash tracking
- Build your skills over time, with a path toward broader accounting responsibilities as the function grows
What we’re looking for:
- 1-3 years of accounting, bookkeeping, or AR/AP experience (internships count), ideally in a startup or SaaS environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field , or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge of accounting fundamentals (debits and credits, accruals, reconciliations) and comfort with AP, AR, and bank reconciliations
- Comfort working directly with clients on billing and payment questions, with a friendly, professional touch
- Ability to work independently on routine tasks, and to ask good questions when something doesn’t tie out
- Experience with cloud accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and solid Excel/Google Sheets skills
- Exceptional attention to detail: you take pride in books that tie out
- Strong organization and time management, with the ability to juggle multiple deadlines, especially around month-end
- Clear, friendly communication skills and the ability to explain financial concepts to non-finance teammates
- An ownership mindset: you’re resourceful, proactive, and excited to build process where it doesn’t exist yet
- Nice to have: Experience with billing/AR automation tools
- Nice to have: Experience with commissions reporting or expense tools (Rippling or similar)
- Nice to have: Interest in growing toward a Staff Accountant role or the CPA path
Compensation:
$60,000-70,000 DOE + bonus eligible. This position is open until filled.

What we offer:

- Team offsites
What to expect:
