Environmental Business Development
Environmental work is technical, regulated, and unforgiving of guesswork, and the best clients choose contractors who understand that. Spyder is a Littleton-based construction and restoration company, and our Environmental division handles asbestos, lead, mold, and meth remediation and selective demolition for commercial, multifamily, and HOA properties across Colorado. We are looking for a strategic, technically fluent business developer who can identify the right targets, earn credibility through expertise, and build a pipeline of work worth winning.
What You Will Own
You will own the growth strategy for Spyder Environmental in the Colorado market. You set the plan, decide where to focus, and are accountable for the results. No one will hand you a call list.
- Build the plan. Map the Colorado market for environmental work, identify the property management firms, owners, general contractors, consultants, and industrial hygienists worth pursuing, and prioritize where your time creates the most return.
- Lead with expertise. Earn credibility by understanding the regulatory and technical drivers behind each project, and speak with an industrial hygienist or a GC superintendent as a peer.
- Qualify with precision. Run thorough discovery on survey status, timelines, permitting, occupancy, budget, and decision makers. Hand the Environmental Project Director opportunities that are complete, accurate, and ready to price.
- Protect the team's time. Decline work that does not fit our capabilities, margins, or values, and be able to explain why.
- Build accounts that compound. Turn first projects into repeat relationships, track account health, and spot where abatement leads to rebuild, mitigation, or capital improvement work for Spyder's other divisions.
- Run a disciplined pipeline. Keep the CRM accurate and current, measure conversion and ROI, and adjust your strategy based on what the numbers show.
- Choose events deliberately. Represent Spyder at industry groups such as BOMA, IREM, the Apartment Association of Metro Denver, and CAI where they serve your strategy, with clear goals and follow-up.
- Deliver market intelligence. Report on competitors, pricing trends, and regulatory changes to the VP of Sales.
What You Bring
Must-haves:
- 3 to 5 years in business development, sales, or account management within environmental services, abatement, remediation, or environmental consulting. This is required.
- Solid technical knowledge of asbestos, lead, mold, and meth scopes and the Colorado regulatory environment that drives them.
- A track record of generating new business, not just managing accounts that were handed to you.
- Willingness to prospect proactively, including outreach to new contacts, without waiting for inbound leads.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills. You build a plan, work it, and measure it.
- Experience using a CRM to manage pipeline and activity.
- A valid Colorado driver's license and the ability to meet Spyder's driving record requirements.
Nice-to-haves:
- Colorado asbestos or meth certification, or AHERA building inspector training.
- An existing network of Front Range industrial hygienists, consultants, property managers, or GCs.
- Experience in restoration, mitigation, or insurance-driven work.
- A bachelor's degree.
This role is probably not a fit if you rely on personality alone to sell, prefer to be told which accounts to pursue, or find pipeline tracking and documentation tedious. It is also not a fit if you are new to environmental work. We need someone who already understands the technical side, works independently, and expects to be held to measurable results.
The Work Itself
- Based out of our Littleton office, with regular time in the field meeting clients across the Denver metro and Front Range.
- Regular local driving to client offices, properties, and job sites.
- Occasional site walks on pre-abatement or active projects alongside the Environmental Project Director. You will follow Spyder safety protocols and wear required PPE on site.
- Occasional early mornings, evenings, and industry events as the work requires.
- Full-time, exempt. Reports to the VP of Sales and works closely with the Environmental Project Director.
