As a Data Center Operations Technician, you will play a critical role in the day-to-day reliability, organization, and technical integrity of our data center environments. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys solving problems, working with hardware and networks, and taking pride in maintaining a clean, structured, and high-performing facility. Based in Ashburn, VA, you’ll leverage your technical foundation while continuing to grow in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment. 


Please note, this is an onsite position in Ashburn, VA.


What You’ll Do:
  • Manage end-to-end trouble ticket ownership, from initial triage through resolution and documentation. 
  • Work both independently and collaboratively to support daily data center operations and maintenance activities. 
  • Install, configure, and decommission server and network equipment for customers and internal teams, ensuring all work meets operational and safety standards. 
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, asset changes, and cabling updates within ticketing and inventory systems. 
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve organization, labeling, and workflow efficiency within the facility. 
  • Stay engaged with internal communications, operational updates, and change management notices. 
  • Adapt to evolving operational needs and participate in on-call or maintenance windows as required. 


What You’ll Deliver:
  • Professional interaction with local and remote customers, vendors, and internal stakeholders. 
  • High-quality remote hands support across Summit’s primary Ashburn facility and nearby secondary sites. 
  • Effective server and network troubleshooting, escalating appropriately when needed. 
  • Consistent adherence to Summit’s standards for quality, safety, and response time. 
  • A clean, organized, and audit-ready colocation environment, including structured cabling, clear labeling, and orderly rack layouts. 
  • Reliable execution of physical infrastructure tasks including hardware swaps, cable runs, and equipment audits. 


You’ll Thrive in This Role If You:
  • 3+ years of experience in a data center, NOC, IT support, or similar technical operations environment. 
  • Demonstrated experience with troubleshooting and fault isolation across hardware, network, or OS layers. 
  • Comfort managing multiple priorities through a ticketing or service management system. 
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server and common Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Alma, Rocky, CentOS). 
  • Ability to work a designated shift with flexibility for maintenance windows in a 24/7/365 operation. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a customer-focused mindset. 
  • A proactive approach to organization, documentation, and continuous learning. 

 

Physical & Environmental Requirements 
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs to shoulder height. 
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods, including regular ladder use. 
  • Visual acuity to read equipment labels and cabling details at varying distances. 
  • Comfortable using company-provided hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Technical Knowledge & Skills 
  • Linux and Windows system operation, networking, and troubleshooting. 
  • Physical configuration, maintenance, and diagnostics of x86 server hardware. 
  • Structured cabling installation, termination, and testing aligned to BICSI or comparable standards. 
  • Intermediate understanding of networking concepts and protocols including OSI, TCP/IP, CIDR, SNMP, and VLANs. 
  • Familiarity with: 
    • Ethernet switching and basic configuration concepts 
    • IP addressing and subnetting 
    • DNS fundamentals and basic troubleshooting 
    • HTTP / web service basics

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $32.00 - $40.50 per hour. Compensation for this role is based on experience, skills, and location. We aim to make offers that are fair, forward-looking, and aligned to both what you bring and where you’re growing.
