About the Team

Production is currently seeking an individual with metal and aluminum with welding experience for our Port Orchard, WA manufacturing facility. The Welding team works together with other departments to create, build, assemble and ship products for the commercial construction industry.

About the Role

As a Welding Lead, you will lead the day-to-day execution of production activities for a team of approximately 5–8 employees. You will work under the direction of the Shift Supervisor to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, to established quality standards, and at expected productivity levels.

You will help maintain the flow of materials and jobs through the welding department, support team members as needed, monitor progress against the production schedule, and address routine production obstacles before they impact delivery.

You will also be involved in processing materials for custom products from CAD drawings and will support continuous improvement efforts designed to improve safety, quality, productivity, and flow. You’ll have a direct hand in accomplishing our #1 goal – a successful project in every way.

What You Will Do

• Lead the day-to-day execution of production activities for an assigned team of approximately 5–8 employees.
• Ensure production work is completed safely, on schedule, to established quality standards, and at expected productivity levels.
• Maintain and use visual production boards to communicate priorities, hourly targets, and progress against the production schedule.
• Monitor actual production performance versus the plan throughout the shift and take appropriate action when performance falls behind schedule.
• Assign and balance work among team members based on production priorities, workload, skills, and available resources.
• Maintain product flow through the welding departments while minimizing unnecessary waiting and work-in-process.
• Read and interpret production schedules, work orders, drawings, and applicable work instructions.
• Support the processing of materials for standard and custom products, including work from CAD drawings.
• Anticipate and address routine production obstacles, including material shortages, equipment issues, quality concerns, staffing gaps, and other issues that may affect production.
• Escalate safety, quality, equipment, staffing, material, and schedule issues to the Shift Supervisor when they cannot be resolved within established procedures or authority.
• Inspect and verify material before, during, and after the various processes to ensure quality requirements are met.
• Identify defects at the source and prevent defective or questionable material from moving to the next process.
• Coach and assist team members with production processes, quality requirements, safety practices, and standard work.
• Support cross-training and development of team members to improve flexibility and reduce dependence on individual employees.
• Maintain accurate production and other required records.
• Complete required paperwork for inventory purposes.
• Report defective material, faulty equipment, safety concerns, and other abnormal conditions to the Shift Supervisor promptly.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and abide by all plant safety regulations and work rules.
• Participate in continuous improvement activities and help identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, flow, and workplace organization.
• Help implement and sustain approved process improvements, standard work, and visual controls.
• Encourage team members to identify problems and improvement opportunities and provide input on practical solutions.
• Perform other production-related duties and responsibilities as assigned, consistent with the needs of the operation.

What You Will Need

• Proven experience in metal fabrication
• Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and production schedules.
• Operating forklift, electric pallet jacks and jib cranes
• Minor computer experience
• Understanding of inventory control
• Able to read measuring tape and basic measuring tools.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with and lead a team.
• Reliable transportation, regular attendance and punctuality are critical

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer.  Work will require individual to enter plant areas where performance factors such as heat, noise, dust, lifting of materials, and working around equipment will be encountered.
