Finance Director

Role Description

The Finance Director is the organization’s lead accounting executive, responsible for the day-to-day financial operations and the integrity of the consolidated financial records. This position is critical for managing the accounting functions across the core unit and all subsidiary business units, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and providing timely and accurate financial reporting to support strategic decision-making. The Finance Director will manage the accounting team and report directly to the CFO, acting as a key partner in the overall financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.


Key Responsibilities


Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting:

  • Oversee and direct all general accounting functions, including accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger operations for the consolidated entity and its sub-business units.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow Statement) in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements for the entire organization, including intercompany eliminations and reconciliation of all sub-business unit results.
  • Coordinate the preparation of all tax provisions and compliance activities, acting as the primary liaison with external tax advisors.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, coordinating all necessary documentation and providing support to ensure a successful annual audit.

Internal Controls & Compliance:

  • Design, implement, and maintain a robust system of internal controls and accounting policies to safeguard company assets, ensure the reliability of financial reporting, and mitigate risk across all business units.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal reporting requirements, tax filings, and banking covenants.
  • Monitor and research technical accounting issues and provide guidance to the CFO and management team on the proper accounting treatment for new transactions.

Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Analysis:

  • Lead the annual budget development process in collaboration with the CFO and department heads for the consolidated entity and individual business units.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasts for cash flow, revenue, and expenses.
  • Perform detailed variance analysis between actual results, budget, and forecast, clearly articulating key drivers, economic trends, and performance to the CFO and executive team.
  • Support data-driven decision-making by preparing ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue enhancement.

Leadership & Management:

  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
  • Streamline accounting processes and workflows by leveraging existing technology and recommending new systems or process improvements to enhance efficiency and scalability.


Required Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience: 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role (e.g., Finance Director, Controller, Accounting Manager)
  • Technical Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • System Skills: High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using an accounting or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is strongly preferred.
  • Industry Experience: Prior experience as a Finance Director or Assistant Finance Director, especially with subsidiary or multi-entity accounting/consolidation experience.
  • System Experience: Experience with system implementations, upgrades, or significant process automation.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
