About the role

  • We are looking for a complete, ready-to-work HDD crew that already functions as a team. You bring the people — qualified drill operator, locator/foreman, and support personnel. We provide the Vermeer directional drill and DigiTrak Falcon locating system. This is a 1099 contractor package. Your crew will operate our equipment on utility projects and must carry Commercial General Liability and equipment insurance that covers the company-owned drill and locator while under your care, custody, and control. You will work under our field supervision and follow our daily safety and closeout processes.

What you'll do

  • Operate the company-provided Vermeer drill and Falcon as a complete crew on directional drilling projects (pilot, ream, and product pullback).
  • Maintain constant operator–locator communication and real-time guidance throughout every bore.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, follow digital pre-start and end-of-day checklists, and protect company equipment from damage, loss, or theft.
  • Work under active 811/One-Call tickets, exercise stop-work authority when locate data is unclear or conditions are unsafe, and communicate issues immediately to supervision.
  • Travel to project sites as required (lodging and per diem provided).
  • Provide a current Certificate of Insurance showing required GL and equipment coverage, name the company as Additional Insured, and maintain coverage for the duration of the assignment.
  • Ensure every crew member passes pre-employment and ongoing drug testing and holds a valid driver’s license.
  • Coordinate daily with company supervision on production, safety, and closeout requirements.

Qualifications

  • Complete, experienced HDD crew that already works together (operator + locator/foreman + support as needed). You do not need to own a drill or walkover locator.
  • Proven hands-on experience operating 20–40k lb class directional drills and providing real-time locating guidance on utility projects.
  • Ability to secure and maintain Commercial General Liability insurance and Equipment/Contractor’s Equipment insurance that covers company-owned directional drill and locating equipment while in your care, custody, and control.
  • Willingness to name the company as Additional Insured and provide required endorsements (including Waiver of Subrogation and Primary & Non-Contributory wording when required).
  • All crew members must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, hold valid driver’s license. At least ONE CDL driver.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel out of state for multi-day projects.
  • Acceptance of full responsibility for the care, proper use, and protection of company equipment.
  • Professional references from previous utility or directional drilling work.
