The Merger and Acquisitions Analyst, M&A Analyst, is responsible for driving corporate strategy through portfolio research; constructing and evaluating financial reports, supporting acquisition diligence processes, studying company operations, and recommending how potential targets will fit into Vortex’s portfolio. The M&A analyst will be primarily responsible for leg work on acquisitions within the pipeline; analyzing industry prospects by gathering information about growth, competitors, and market share possibilities; reviewing company financial statements; ultimately making a recommendation and presenting to senior leadership.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the evaluation of new business opportunities, including scoping comprehensive market landscapes, industry trends, customer segments, competitive positioning, and value chain dynamics to inform strategic decision-making
  • Lead business case development for deals, which involves corresponding with acquisition target management teams and analyzing historical financial trends and key growth drivers and communicating to senior management. 
  • Support external deal team through the transaction life cycle from origination through diligence, closing and integration
  • Acquisition lifecycle includes initial financial due diligence, business case modeling and review, understanding the target’s accounting and operational processes, quality of earnings, integration planning and execution
  • Support integration planning, leveraging third-party diligence provider reports to leverage our understanding of the targeted business and business processes to evaluate the integration risks, challenges, priority items and present those considerations to internal integrations team and department heads
  • Prepare internal reports and presentations for senior leadership on acquisition performance, financial trends, including acquisition rationale and return on investment (ROI) for the broader investment committee
  • Support the management of the Company’s acquisition pipeline which is reviewed weekly for important updates
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. The applicant must possess strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with all levels of the organization regarding sensitive information
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills required, especially in Microsoft Excel. Excellent power point capabilities and ability needed to create presentations to drive buy-in
  • Excellent process management skills are required. The applicant must be organized and able to handle high volumes of transactional activity, tight deadlines, and ever-changing priorities. The applicant must possess the ability to prioritize competing tasks and handle unique situations and be comfortable working on a variety of projects and deliverables simultaneously.
  • The ability to establish and maintain rapport with potential acquisition targets, serving as a professional and credible point of contact throughout the transaction process

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related subject
  • Minimum two years’ relevant finance, consulting, M&A or professional services experience
  • Travel (up to 60%) will be required given the hands-on nature of the role
  • Work in-person five (5) days a week
