The Role

The PRN Psychiatrist provides direct psychiatric care to individual patients receiving treatment at the partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) levels of care. The Psychiatrist collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary treatment team, contributing psychiatric expertise to treatment planning and the management of complex cases. The Psychiatrist also performs related clinical and administrative duties as assigned.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and individual follow-up appointments.
  • Assess psychiatric symptoms, diagnoses, treatment needs, and medication response.
  • Prescribe and manage medications when clinically appropriate and within the scope of licensure.
  • Review patients’ vital signs, laboratory results, medical histories, and symptoms as clinically indicated.
  • Support patient safety and identify medical or psychiatric concerns requiring additional evaluation or intervention.
  • Coordinate care with primary care physicians and other healthcare providers as indicated.
  • Serve as the physician member of the multidisciplinary patient care team.
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and treatment team members regarding diagnoses and treatment recommendations, in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
  • Recommend hospitalization, a higher level of care, or other appropriate services when clinically indicated.
  • Make referrals to specialists and outside providers as appropriate.
  • Contribute medical and psychiatric expertise to program development and improvement.
  • Participate in administrative and clinical staff meetings to provide ongoing psychiatric consultation.
  • Complete all required clinical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient, employee, and organizational information.
  • Maintain professional, respectful, and collaborative relationships with patients, families, colleagues, supervisors, and outside providers.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the Psychiatrist’s role, qualifications, and scope of practice.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
  • Board certification in psychiatry through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or the American Osteopathic Board of Neurology and Psychiatry.
  • A valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in each state where assigned patients reside, or the ability to obtain the required licenses.
  • Current DEA registration and any applicable state controlled-substance registrations, if required for the assigned responsibilities.
  • Must not be excluded, suspended, debarred, or otherwise ineligible to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or other government healthcare programs.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and concisely in both verbal and written formats.
  • Strong clinical judgment, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience treating eating disorders and providing psychiatric care in PHP, IOP, or telehealth settings is preferred.

Time and Documentation Guidelines

  • This is a PRN position with scheduling based on patient and program needs.
  • Initial psychiatric evaluations are typically scheduled for 60 minutes, with additional time of up to 30 mins provided for documentation.
  • Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled for 30 minutes, which includes time provided for documentation.
  • The Psychiatrist is expected to participate in staff meetings and complete clinically appropriate documentation and care coordination.
  • All required work must be documented and reported in accordance with company timekeeping policies.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues by telephone, video, and approved computer applications.
  • Ability to operate a computer, smartphone, tablet, and other technology required to provide telehealth services.
  • Ability to remain seated for most of the work period, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Reliable internet access.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities, manage an assigned workload, and work independently.
  • Because this is a remote position, work must be performed in a private, quiet, and secure location that protects patient confidentiality and supports professional telehealth care.
