Seasonal Fruit Processor

About American Spoon

In 1982, we began making preserves in our Northern Michigan storefront kitchen. After all these years, our skilled crew still prepares fruit by hand and cooks with care in small-batch copper kettles. We work directly with a dedicated group of Michigan farmers and foragers who grow and gather the unique varieties of fruit we love, prized over generations for unparalleled taste and character. Our small, family-owned company exists, to find, capture, and preserve flavors you simply won’t find anywhere else.

American Spoon is hiring seasonal fruit processors to assist in processing fresh fruit throughout our Michigan Harvest season.

Description:

This position will begin with the Red Haven Peach harvest (mid-August) and will continue through mid to late September. This job works alongside American Spoon's skilled Kitchen Production Staff to hand-process a variety of locally grown produce for use in our award-winning jams, preserves, and sauces. The job includes blanching, hand peeling, pit removal, and requires the occasional use of hand tools such as peelers and knives. On-site training is provided.

For those looking for a more full time role - this is an excellent opportunity to get your foot in the door at American Spoon. We often hire our full time people out of seasonal roles.

Schedule:

The Production Kitchen operates Monday through Friday between 8 am and 5 pm. Fruit Processing depends on the availability of the fruit so some days will be shorter. We are looking for individuals who can work between 3-5 days a week.

Requirements:

Must be 18 years or older.

All new hires will be required to attend an orientation prior to the start of the season.

Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 4 hours.

Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Must follow all dress and hygiene codes and food handling protocols covered during the training period.

This is an ideal position for individuals who enjoy fresh food and the farm-to-table culture. It is also well-suited for those who are team-oriented, retirees looking for supplemental income, and people interested in Michigan's diverse agriculture.
